Book Measurement of Atomic Collision Cross Sections

Download or read book Measurement of Atomic Collision Cross Sections written by R. F. Stebbings and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The production of Lyman-alpha radiation in H(+) -H (1s) collisions has been investigated. The cross sections for 1s-2p excitation of the thermal-energy-target H atoms, and for electron capture into the 2p state of the projectiles, have been determined separately. These measurements are of particular significance in that they provide experimental information on a heavy-particle inelastic collision, involving only one electron, in which the states of all interacting particles are determined. Comparison with the results of calculation subjects the validity of the scattering approximations to direct scrutiny. It appears that the low energy behavior for both excitation and capture is adequately represented by theory as is the highenergy behavior for electron capture. The calculations appear to over-estimate the cross section for 1s-2p excitation by about a factor of 2 at the high energies. Electron impact ionization of molecular oxygen was investigated in the immediate vicinity of threshold using electron beams of high energy-resolution. The results suggest that a re-evaluation of the mechanism of the ionizing process may be necessary.

Book High Altitude Phenomenology from Electron Impact Cross Sections

Download or read book High Altitude Phenomenology from Electron Impact Cross Sections written by Stephen Ormode and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report is concerned with some recent results obtained with the close coupling approximation for the low energy electron impact scattering cross sections for atomic oxygen, nitrogen, and their ions. Two reports on the scattering of electrons by helium and copper are also presented.

Book Calculations of Electron Impact Cross Sections

Download or read book Calculations of Electron Impact Cross Sections written by Stephan Ormonde and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report is concerned with calculations of atomic collision processes with the generalized multiconfiguration, multichannel electron-atom scattering code. Results are presented for the scattering of low energy electrons by nitrogen(+) and oxygen(++) and comparison made with the only other configuration interaction model developed to date. Collision of strengths for transitions out of the ground state configuration of ions of nitrogen and oxygen are given. (Author).

Book Coulomb Born Electron Impact Excitation Cross Sections for Atmospheric Ions

Download or read book Coulomb Born Electron Impact Excitation Cross Sections for Atmospheric Ions written by J. A. Reefer and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coulomb-Born electron impact excitation cross-sections for thirty ground state transitions of the first three ions of nitrogen and oxygen have been computed for electron energies ranging from the threshold to 300 eV. Effective Gaunt factors for use in estimating cross-sections semi-empirically were also calculated and the reliability of such estimations is discussed. Comparisons with more elaborate theoretical cross-section calculations indicate that the Coulomb-Born results appear to over-estimate the cross-section near the threshold for intra-shell transitions, but not for the inter-shell transitions.
