Book Electron Density Fluctuations in a Plasma

Download or read book Electron Density Fluctuations in a Plasma written by E. E. SALPETER and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The spatial Fourier transform P is considered for wave vector k of the charge distribution of the electrons in a plasma with particle density n, electron and ion temperatures T and T sub i, and Debye length D. We assume the absence of a magnetic field, neglect collisions, and assume n/D cubed is greater than 1. The statistical average of P squared is calculated as a function of a equals 1/kD assuming complete thermodynamic equilibrium; that component of P squared, which keeps in phase with the ion charge density fluctuations is also calculated. The frequency spectrum of the time-varying function P is obtained at thermal equilibrium and simplified, assuming the ion mass to be much larger than the electron mass, for general values of a and T/T sub i. For small a the main component of the spectrum has the characteristic Doppler broadening shape corresponding to the electron's thermal velocity. For large a we have a component with narrow width corresponding roughly to the ion-velocity Doppler spread and very narrow side bands at plus and minus the frequency of electrostatic plasma oscillations. Book Electromagnetic Fluctuations In Plasma

Download or read book Electromagnetic Fluctuations In Plasma written by A Sitenko and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electromagnetic Fluctuations in Plasma focuses on the theoretical investigation of the electromagnetic properties of a plasma (an ionized gas). The manuscript first takes a look at the general theory of fluctuations and electromagnetic fluctuations in media with space-time dispersion. Discussions focus on spectral distribution of the fluctuations and energy dissipation in the medium; dielectric and magnetic permittivities in a medium with spatial dispersion; current, charge, and field fluctuations in a medium; and inversion of the fluctuation-dissipation theorem. The text then examines the electrodynamic properties of an electron plasma and electromagnetic fluctuations in an electron plasma. The publication ponders on fluctuations in an electron-ion plasma and electron plasma in a magnetic field. Topics include plasma dielectric permittivity tensor in a magnetic field; longitudinal plasma oscillations in a magnetic field; fluctuations in charge and current densities in an equilibrium electron-ion plasma; and electron and ion density fluctuations in an equilibrium plasma. The text also tackles the passage of charged particles through plasma and dynamic friction and diffusion coefficients in a plasma. The book is a dependable reference for readers interested in the study of the electromagnetic properties of a plasma.

Book Effects of Collisions on Electron Density Fluctuations in Plasmas

Download or read book Effects of Collisions on Electron Density Fluctuations in Plasmas written by M. S. Grewal and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The spectrum of electron density fluctuations has previously been calculated for a collisionless plasma. In this paper the theory is extended to include collisions as represented by a Fokker-Planck equation such as the one used in the theory of Brownian motion. Numerical calculations have been carried out to show graphically the transition of the spectrum from the collisionless to the collisiondominated case. The results of the present analysis involve some thus far untabulated functions. These functions have been numerically evaluated and the results are presented in graphical form. (Author).

Book On the Power Scattered from Density Fluctuations in a Plasma

Download or read book On the Power Scattered from Density Fluctuations in a Plasma written by Stanford University. Stanford Electronics Laboratories and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The power spectral density for scattering from density fluctuations in a plasma was numerically integrated to check an approximate analytical ex pression for the total scattered power. For all wavelength - Debye-length ratios, the analytical expression decreases monotonically with increas ing electron-ion temperature ratio. The numeri cal results differ significantly from this be havior only for temperature ratios greater than to a maximum for large temperature ratios. The discrepancy is more important for less massive ions and for larger-wavelength - Debye-length ratios. (Author).

Book Estimating the Spectrum of Electron Density Fluctuations from Simulations of Ionospheric Plasma Clouds

Download or read book Estimating the Spectrum of Electron Density Fluctuations from Simulations of Ionospheric Plasma Clouds written by Norman J. Zabusky and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical simulations of ionospheric plasma clouds yield information for four related purposes: To interpret past barium cloud experiments; To predict phenomena in new experiments; To validate algorithms used in system codes which determine the life-time of sky regions occluded by striations following a nuclear explosion; and To predict the temporal evolution of the spectrum of electron-density fluctuations (EDF's) for use in propagation studies. In this memorandum we study the spectrum of simple geometric figures that have shapes similar to those that arise in the evolution of ionospheric plasma clouds.

Book Ion Density Fluctuations in Plasma and Their Effects on Hot Electron Generation

Download or read book Ion Density Fluctuations in Plasma and Their Effects on Hot Electron Generation written by Marty Wallace and published by . This book was released on 2002-06-01 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis, high-energy electron generation by stimulated Raman scattering of intense laser light is investigated in computer simulations. These high-energy electrons can be used to produce a high-energy x-ray source for Nuclear Weapons Effects Testing. The simulation results are compared with actual experiments conducted at the Atomic Weapons Establishment in the United Kingdom. The simulations show that the heated electron temperature is significantly lowered and the frequency spectrum of the scattered light is broadened by strong ion density fluctuations in the plasma. These density fluctuations are produced when the Raman scattered light undergoes Brillouin backscattering. Interactive Data Language is also used to analyze the spectrum of Raman scattered light in some recent experiments with the OMEGA laser at the University of Rochester.
