Book On the Electron Density Distribution Above the F2 Peak revised

Download or read book On the Electron Density Distribution Above the F2 Peak revised written by S. J. Bauer and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The distribution of free electrons in a heterogeneous upper ionosphere is discussed. According to theoretical arguments as well as experimental evidence, the electron density distribution well above the F2 peak corresponds to a diffusive equilibrium distribution. It is shown that accurate electron density measurements in this altitude region allow the determination of associated atmospheric parameters such as scale height and temperature, as well as the nature and concentration of the light ions, since within this altitude region a transition occurs from the predominant heavy ion (0+) to the light ions (H+ and/or He+). Book Effect of Temperature Changes on the Electron Density Distribution in the F region

Download or read book Effect of Temperature Changes on the Electron Density Distribution in the F region written by Y. V. Somayajulu and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The initial profile is assumed to correspond to photo-equilibrium conditions, with the peak electron density determined by production, loss and diffusion. The temperature dependence of the production, loss and diffusion parameters are then introduced and the modified profiles are obtained for different temperature changes. The results show that following a temperature increase (by a factor lambda> 1) the electron density at all levels decreases. The height of the peak is located using the theoretical expression. The changed peak electron density obtained from the profile agrees well with that computed from the theoretical expression. Thus, it is concluded that the changed electron density distribution up to the peak can be obtained using this procedure. It is, however, pointed at that while a large reduction takes place in the electron density at fixed levels, the N (max) decreases only as approximately 1/lambda (5/6th or 1/2 powers). For small changes in temperature (lambda=1.1) there is a possibility of a slight increase in N (max). Similarity between these results and the behavior of F-region in the equatorial regions is indicated. (Author).

Book Proceedings of the Plasma Space Science Symposium

Download or read book Proceedings of the Plasma Space Science Symposium written by C.C. Chang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Space, whether interplanetary or interstellar, is filled with plasma or ionized gas. The success of space exploration must count heavily on the study and understanding ofthe plasma. With this view, the Symposium ofPlasma Space Science was held at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., in cooperation with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the Goddard Space Flight Center, June 11-14, 1963. The symposium was organized by Dr. C. C. Chang as director and Dr. Y. C. Whang as assistant director. The proceedings consist of four parts. The first part describes the solar phenomena: solar magnetic field, flare, atmosphere, cosmic rays, radiation, etc. The second part deals with the solar wind or interplanetary plasma. This includes both theoretical treatment and experimental measurements of Mariner H. The third part is concen trated on magnetosphere, with the measurements on trapped radiation from natural sources and high altitude thermonuclear explosions, and particularly with the magnetopause. The fourth and last part includes the ring current, geomagnetic storms, the aurora, the ionosphere and lunar surface phenomena. There was round table discussion in each session. Many interesting comments and stimulating arguments emerged from the floor and are included in the Proceedings.
