Download or read book Atom Photon Interactions written by Claude Cohen-Tannoudji and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1998-03-23 with total page 691 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atom-Photon Interactions: Basic Processes and Applications allows the reader to master various aspects of the physics of the interaction between light and matter. It is devoted to the study of the interactions between photons and atoms in atomic and molecular physics, quantum optics, and laser physics. The elementary processes in which photons are emitted, absorbed, scattered, or exchanged between atoms are treated in detail and described using diagrammatic representation. The book presents different theoretical approaches, including: Perturbative methods The resolvent method Use of the master equation The Langevin equation The optical Bloch equations The dressed-atom approach Each method is presented in a self-contained manner so that it may be studied independently. Many applications of these approaches to simple and important physical phenomena are given to illustrate the potential and limitations of each method.

Book Health Effects of Exposure to Low Levels of Ionizing Radiation

Download or read book Health Effects of Exposure to Low Levels of Ionizing Radiation written by National Research Council and published by National Academies. This book was released on 1990-02-01 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reevaluates the health risks of ionizing radiation in light of data that have become available since the 1980 report on this subject was published. The data include new, much more reliable dose estimates for the A-bomb survivors, the results of an additional 14 years of follow-up of the survivors for cancer mortality, recent results of follow-up studies of persons irradiated for medical purposes, and results of relevant experiments with laboratory animals and cultured cells. It analyzes the data in terms of risk estimates for specific organs in relation to dose and time after exposure, and compares radiation effects between Japanese and Western populations.

Book Engineering the Atom Photon Interaction

Download or read book Engineering the Atom Photon Interaction written by Ana Predojević and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-16 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive view of the contemporary methods for quantum-light engineering. In particular, it addresses different technological branches and therefore allows the reader to quickly identify the best technology - application match. Non-classical light is a versatile tool, proven to be an intrinsic part of various quantum technologies. Its historical significance has made it the subject of many text books written both from theoretical and experimental point of view. This book takes another perspective by giving an insight to modern technologies used to generate and manipulate quantum light.

Book Theoretical Studies of Electron and Photon Interactions With Atoms and Ions

Download or read book Theoretical Studies of Electron and Photon Interactions With Atoms and Ions written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This grant has contributed to the establishment of a strong group in Theoretical Atomic and Molecular Physics at Clark Atlanta University. The general thrust of the group has been: (l) the development of novel theoretical methods for application to electron scattering at small-scattering angles, propulsion technologies and planetary atmospheres; 2) the calculation, using extensive configuration-interaction wave functions in sophisticated methodologies of energy levels, optical oscillator strengths, effective collision strengths for use in plasma modeling and photoionization cross sections; and 3) the support of minority students who are underrepresented in the physical and mathematical sciences The acquisition through tho AFOSR research grant of the powerful IBM RISC 6OOO/590 workstation and attendant software as well as the support of a Post-doctoral Fellow and students have improved the research environment at the Center for theoretical Studies of Physical Systems (CTSPS) and impacted the training of students in the Atlanta University Center, the largest consortium of private HBCUs in the nation. National and international visitors and collaborators have been attracted to CTSPS, creating an excellent environment for research, thereby advancing the field of small-angle electron scattering to a level that has never been attained before. The project has been very productive. Twenty-five publications have been generated with an additional six publications submitted for publication in refereed journals. Additionally, 31 papers have been presented at national and international conferences over the past three years.

Book Handbook of Particle Detection and Imaging

Download or read book Handbook of Particle Detection and Imaging written by Claus Grupen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-01-08 with total page 1251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The handbook centers on detection techniques in the field of particle physics, medical imaging and related subjects. It is structured into three parts. The first one is dealing with basic ideas of particle detectors, followed by applications of these devices in high energy physics and other fields. In the last part the large field of medical imaging using similar detection techniques is described. The different chapters of the book are written by world experts in their field. Clear instructions on the detection techniques and principles in terms of relevant operation parameters for scientists and graduate students are given.Detailed tables and diagrams will make this a very useful handbook for the application of these techniques in many different fields like physics, medicine, biology and other areas of natural science.

Book Interactions of Photons and Electrons with Atoms

Download or read book Interactions of Photons and Electrons with Atoms written by and published by Springer. This book was released on 2000-06-15 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interactions of photons and electrons with atoms, molecules, and ions are fundamental elementary processes in a wide variety of neutral or ionized gases in nature or laboratory. The data on the cross sections or related quantities for those processes are eagerly needed in many fields of application such as astrophysics, atmospheric science, plasma science, radiation physics and chemistry, etc. They are also important in understanding physical or chemical properties of atoms, molecules, and their ions. Volume I/17 provides cross section data and related quantitative information on the collisions of photons with atoms, electrons with atoms, and electrons with atomic ions. Subvolume I/17A deals with the interactions of photons and electrons with neutral atoms.
