Book Nonlinear Surface Electromagnetic Phenomena

Download or read book Nonlinear Surface Electromagnetic Phenomena written by H.-E. Ponath and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 680 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years the physics of electromagnetic surface phenomena has developed rapidly, evolving into technologies for communications and industry, such as fiber and integrated optics. The variety of phenomena based on electromagnetism at surfaces is rich and this book was written with the aim of summarizing the available knowledge in selected areas of the field. The book contains reviews written by solid state and optical physicists on the nonlinear interaction of electromagnetic waves at and with surfaces and films. Both the physical phenomena and some potential applications are dealt with. Included are discussions of nonlinear wave mixing on films and surfaces, second harmonic generation in waveguides and at surfaces, nonlinear waves guided by dielectric and semiconductor surfaces and films, surface gratings formed by high energy laser beams, and reflection and transmission switching of strong beams onto nonlinear surfaces. Chapters on light scattering from surface excitations and magnetic order-disorder and orientational phase transitions complete this essential contribution to the modern optics literature.

Book Mathematical Problems of Classical Nonlinear Electromagnetic Theory

Download or read book Mathematical Problems of Classical Nonlinear Electromagnetic Theory written by Frederick Bloom and published by Chapman and Hall/CRC. This book was released on 1993-02-08 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a survey of a collection of problems arising in classical nonlinear electromagnetic theory. The subject matter treated here has its origins in one of three basic subareas of nonlinear electromagnetic theory, namely, the propagation of electromagnetic waves in nonlinear dielectric materials, the evolution of the charge and current distributions in a nonlinear transmission line, and nonlocal problems in electromagnetic theory which depend, for their formulation, on the Biot-Savart Law.

Book Nonlinear Tunable and Active Metamaterials

Download or read book Nonlinear Tunable and Active Metamaterials written by Ilya V. Shadrivov and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-01 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metamaterials, artificial electromagnetic media achieved by structuring on the subwave-length-scale were initially suggested for the negative index and superlensing. They became a paradigm for engineering electromagnetic space and controlling propagation of waves. The research agenda is now shifting on achieving tuneable, switchable, nonlinear and sensing functionalities. The time has come to talk about the emerging research field of metadevices employing active and tunable metamaterials with unique functionalities achieved by structuring of functional matter on the subwave-length scale. This book presents the first systematic and comprehensive summary of the reviews written by the pioneers and top-class experts in the field of metamaterials. It addresses many grand challenges of the cutting edge research for creating smaller and more efficient photonic structures and devices.
