Book Electromagnetic Production of Hyperon Resonances

Download or read book Electromagnetic Production of Hyperon Resonances written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of hyperon resonances has entered a new era of precision with advent of high-statistics photoproduction data from the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab. These data have multi-particle final states, allowing clean identification of exclusive reactions associated with strange mesons and baryons. Examples of physics results are: evidence for isospin interference in the decay of the [Lambda](1405) resonance; a strong suggestion of meson cloud effects in the structure of the [Sigma](1385) resonance; data from K* photoproduction that will test the existence of the purported K0(800)$ meson. Properties of other hyperon resonances will also be studied in the near future.

Book Hyperon AND Hyperon Resonance Properties From Charm Baryon Decays At BaBar

Download or read book Hyperon AND Hyperon Resonance Properties From Charm Baryon Decays At BaBar written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes studies of hyperons and hyperon resonances produced in charm baryon decays at BABAR. Using two-body decays of the?{sub c}° and?{sub c}°, it is shown, for the first time, that the spin of the?− is 3/2. The?− analysis procedures are extended to three-body final states and properties of the?(1690)° are extracted from a detailed isobar model analysis of the?{sub c} →?{bar K}°K+ Dalitz plot. The mass and width values of the?(1690)° are measured with much greater precision than attained previously. The hypothesis that the spin of the?(1690) resonance is 1/2 yields an excellent description of the data, while spin values 3/2 and 5/2 are disfavored. The?a0(980)+ decay mode of the?{sub c}+ is observed for the first time. Similar techniques are then used to study?(1530)° production in?{sub c}+ decay. The spin of the?(1530) is established for the first time to be 3/2. The existence of an S-wave amplitude in the?−?+ system is shown, and its interference with the?(1530)° amplitude provides the first clear demonstration of the Breit-Wigner phase motion expected for the?(1530). The?−?+ mass distribution in the vicinity of the?(1690)° exhibits interesting structure which may be interpreted as indicating that the?(1690) has negative parity.

Book DECAY PROPERTIES OF THE E HYPERON AND E RESONANCES

Download or read book DECAY PROPERTIES OF THE E HYPERON AND E RESONANCES written by and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A sample of 2500?− and 500?° hyperons, produced in?K,?K?, and?K?? final states by K− (in H2) at incident momenta of 1.7 to 2.7 BeV/c, has been analyzed. The data are from an exposure (K-63) of 26 events/?b in the 72-inch bubble chamber; approximately 85% of the?− events and 60% of the?° events have been analyzed. For the?, they determine the spin and decay parameters a{sub?} and?{sub?} = tan−1 (?{sub?}/?{sub?}). Combining their data with 900?− and 150?° events from an earlier experiment (K-72), they obtain the following results: (1)? spin - J = 1/2 favored over J = 3/2 by ≈ 2.5 standard deviations; (2)? decay parameters (assuming a{sub {Lambda}} = 0.647 ± 0.048) - a{sub?−} = -0.398 ± 0.041,?{sub?−} = 9.8{sup o} ± 9.0{sup o}; a{sub?°} = -0.413 ± 0.104. They observe?*(1530) and?*(1817); their data are insufficient for analysis of suggested {Xi}* resonances at 1705 and 1933 MeV. They measure the {Xi}*(1530) electromagnetic mass difference?m = m({Xi}*−) = m({Xi}*°) = 2.0 ± 3.2 MeV. Using data, part of which has already been described, they find for {Xi}*(1530): J ≥ 3/2 favored over J = 1/2 (the J = 1/2 hypothesis is ≈ 3.5% as probable as the J = 3/2 hypothesis); J{sup P} = 3/2 favored over 3/2− by ≈ 2.8 standard deviations. For {Xi}*(1817) decaying into {Xi}*(1530) +?, the hypotheses J{sup P} = 1/2+, 1/2−, 3/2−, 5/2+, 7/2−, etc. (corresponding to l = 1, 2, 0 and 2, 1 and 3, and 2 and 4, respectively) are favored over other hypotheses, but results are inconclusive due to large background.

Download or read book Hadron and Nuclear Physics with Electromagnetic Probes written by K. Maruyama and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-10-20 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, the main research areas were photonuclear reactions and meson productions by using the first high-duty tagged photon beam and the TAGX spectrometer. Although this field is developing quite rapidly, the synchrotron was closed in 1999 after 37 years of operation, and these activities continue at new facilities. It was therfore a good time to discuss the present status and future directions of this field at this occasion. The Symposium was attended by 85 physicists and 35 talks were presented. This book contains the papers presented in the scientific program of the Symposium. aspects of kaon photoproduc

Book Photoproduction of and 0 Hyperons Off Protons in the Nucleon Resonance Region Using CLAS at Jefferson Lab

Download or read book Photoproduction of and 0 Hyperons Off Protons in the Nucleon Resonance Region Using CLAS at Jefferson Lab written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The differential cross section and hyperon recoil polarizations of the photoproduction of the ground state hyperons, ? p → K+ ? and ? p → K+ ?0 , have been measured with the CLAS at Jefferson Lab up to a photon energy in the lab of 2.325 GeV. The results for both channels show significantly larger cross section in the middle to forward angles than have been observed previously by the SAPHIR Collaboration. Both reactions show significantly more backward peaking in the angular distributions than has previously been possible to observe. The backward peaking hints that hyperon resonances in the u-channel play a significant role in the production mechanism. In addition, in the ? p → K+ ? reaction, a previously unobserved bump in the cross section was observed at forward angles, centered on a W of 1.95 GeV with a width of approximately ? = 100 MeV. In both ? p → K+ Y reactions the recoil polarization in the forward direction seems reasonably well reproduced by t-channel interferences in a Regge model calculation as well as hadrodynamic models that include kaon resonances in the t-channel. The recoil polarization for ? p → K+ ? shows a significant enhancement around a W of 1.9 GeV in the backward angles, which is a sign of resonance activity in this vicinity. The polarization of ? p → K+ ?0 at backward angles is, in contrast, less pronounced and mostly consistent with zero.
