Book Electromagnetic Response of Atomic Nuclei

Download or read book Electromagnetic Response of Atomic Nuclei written by Sigfrido Boffi and published by Clarendon Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the structure and dynamics of atomic nuclei in terms of nucleons, pions, and quarks, all within a unified treatment of the nuclear response to an electromagnetic probe. The basic formalism is presented to describe the electromagnetic field and its interaction with nuclear matter for both real and virtual photons. Nuclear response is then analyzed in terms of structure functions in the case of inclusive and semi-inclusive inelastic electron scattering. The discussion covers pion production and one- or two-nucleon emission and compares the results with available data. The formalism is also extended to incident polarized electrons, polarized targets and nuclear recoil polarization. It contains a comprehensive description of photonuclear reactions at intermediate energies and a review of experimental data and previous theoretical approaches.

Book Handbook of Nuclear Physics

Download or read book Handbook of Nuclear Physics written by Isao Tanihata and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-09-04 with total page 4180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook is a comprehensive, systematic source of modern nuclear physics. It aims to summarize experimental and theoretical discoveries and an understanding of unstable nuclei and their exotic structures, which were opened up by the development of radioactive ion (RI) beam in the late 1980s. The handbook comprises three major parts. In the first part, the experiments and measured facts are well organized and reviewed. The second part summarizes recognized theories to explain the experimental facts introduced in the first part. Reflecting recent synergistic progress involving both experiment and theory, the chapters both parts are mutually related. The last part focuses on cosmo-nuclear physics—one of the mainstream subjects in modern nuclear physics. Those comprehensive topics are presented concisely. Supported by introductory reviews, all chapters are designed to present their topics in a manner accessible to readers at the graduate level. The book therefore serves as a valuable source for beginners as well, helping them to learn modern nuclear physics.

Book Giant Resonances

    Book Details:
  • Author : M. N. Harakeh
  • Publisher : Oxford Studies in Nuclear Phys
  • Release : 2001
  • ISBN : 9780198517337
  • Pages : 658 pages

Download or read book Giant Resonances written by M. N. Harakeh and published by Oxford Studies in Nuclear Phys. This book was released on 2001 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Giant resonances are collective excitations of the atomic nucleus, a typical quantum many-body system. The study of these fundamental modes has in many respects contributed to our understanding of the bulk behavior of the nucleus and of the dynamics of non-equilibrium excitations. Although the phenomenon of giant resonances has been known for more than 50 years, a large amount of information has been obtained in the last 10 years. This book gives an up-to-date, comprehensive account of our present knowledge of giant resonances. It presents the experimental facts and the techniques used to obtain that information, describes how these facts fit into theoretical concepts and how this allows to determine various nuclear properties which are otherwise difficult to obtain. Included as an introduction is an overview of the main facts, a short history of how the field has developed in the course of time, and a discussion of future perspectives.

Book ELECTROMAGNETIC PROCESSES IN chi EFT

Download or read book ELECTROMAGNETIC PROCESSES IN chi EFT written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 34005 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear electromagnetic currents derived in a chiral-effective-field-theory framework including explicit nucleons, $\Delta$ isobars, and pions up to N$^2$LO, {\it i.e.} ignoring loop corrections, are used in a study of neutron radiative captures on protons and deuterons at thermal energies, and of $A$=2 and 3 nuclei magnetic moments. With the strengths of the $\Delta$-excitation currents determined to reproduce the $n$-$p$ cross section and isovector combination of the trinucleon magnetic moments, we find that the cross section and photon circular polarization parameter, measured respectively in $n$-$d$ and $\vec{n}$-$d$ processes, are significantly underpredicted by theory.
