Book Electromagnetic and Acoustic Scattering by Simple Shapes

Download or read book Electromagnetic and Acoustic Scattering by Simple Shapes written by J. S. Asvestas and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 756 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book represents an exhaustive study of the scattering properties of acoustically soft and hard bodies and of perfect conductors, presented for 15 geometrically-simple shapes. Such shapes are important in their own right and as a basis for synthesizing the radiation and scattering properties of more complex configurations. Each shape is treated in a separate chapter whose contents are presented in stylized format for easy reference. Emphasis is placed on results in the form of formulae and diagrams. Although no detailed derivation are included, an outline of methods in scattering theory is given in the Introduction. (Author).

Book Acoustic Interactions with Submerged Elastic Structures

Download or read book Acoustic Interactions with Submerged Elastic Structures written by Ardéshir Guran and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996-08-30 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interaction of acoustic fields with submerged elastic structures, both by propagation and scattering, is being investigated at various institutions and laboratories world-wide with ever-increasing sophistication of experiments and analysis. This book offers a collection of contributions from these research centers that represent the present state-of-the-art in the study of acoustic elastic interaction, being on the cutting edge of these investigations. This includes the description of acoustic scattering from submerged elastic objects and shells by the Resonance Scattering Theory of Flax, Dragonette and Überall, and the interaction of these phenomena in terms of interface waves. It also includes the use of this theory for the purpose of inverse scattering, i.e. the determination of the scattered objects properties from the received acoustic backscattered signals. The problem of acoustically excited waves in inhomogeneous and anisotropic materials, and of inhomogeneous propagating waves is considered. Vibrations and resonances of elastic shells, including shells with various kinds of internal attachments, are analyzed. Acoustic scattering experiments are described in the time domain, and on the basis of the Wigner–Ville distribution. Acoustic propagation in the water column over elastic boundaries is studied experimentally both in laboratory tanks, and in the field, and is analyzed theoretically. Ultrasonic nondestructive testing, including such aspects like probe modelling, scattering by various types of cracks, receiving probes and calibration by a side-drilled hole is also studied in details. A comprehensive picture of these complex phenomena and other aspects is presented in the book by researchers that are experts in each of these domains, giving up-to-date accounts of the field in all these aspects. Contents:The Resonances: From Nuclear Physics to Underwater Acoustics (H Überall et al.)RST and Peripheral Waves (N Veksler)Acoustic Scattering from Internally Loaded Cylindrical Shells (Y-P Guo)Scattering by Cylindrical Objects at Oblique Incidence (J-M Conoir et al.)Nonspecular Reflection-Transmission Phenomena of Bounded Beams Described by Inhomogeneous Plane Waves (O Leroy)Reflection and Refraction of the Inhomogeneous Plane Wave (M Deschamps)Theory of the Acoustic Bounded Beam (M Rousseau & P Gatignol)Sound Scattering by a Fluid-Loaded Cylindrical Shell with an Internal Axial Stiffener (A Klauson et al.)Interferences in Elastic Plates (J-M Conoir et al.) Book Underwater Scattering and Radiation

Download or read book Underwater Scattering and Radiation written by Allan D. Pierce and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Underwater Scattering and Radiation describes the relevant theoretical foundations of underwater scattering and radiation. Acoustic scattering from elastic solids is discussed, and variational formulations in acoustic radiation and scattering are presented. Surface waves and quasi-cylindrical modes are also explored, along with the Helmholtz-Kirchhoff integral corollaries. Comprised of two chapters, this volume begins with a comprehensive account of scattering by elastic objects, focusing on the classic idealized shapes of spheres and infinite cylinders. The reader is introduced to important concepts such as normal modes, the S-matrix, and the T-matrix as well as resonances, whispering gallery modes, Franz modes, and Stoneley waves. Subsequent sections describe methods for treating scattering by elastic bodies of more general shapes. The T-matrix formalism is discussed and then applied to spheroidal scatterers and finite cylinders. The second chapter analyzes how variational principles can be used in acoustics, with the choice of topics directed toward applications to underwater acoustic radiation and scattering. This book will be of interest to physicists.

Download or read book Computational Ocean Acoustics written by Finn B. Jensen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-10 with total page 808 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Senior level/graduate level text/reference presenting state-of-the- art numerical techniques to solve the wave equation in heterogeneous fluid-solid media. Numerical models have become standard research tools in acoustic laboratories, and thus computational acoustics is becoming an increasingly important branch of ocean acoustic science. The first edition of this successful book, written by the recognized leaders of the field, was the first to present a comprehensive and modern introduction to computational ocean acoustics accessible to students. This revision, with 100 additional pages, completely updates the material in the first edition and includes new models based on current research. It includes problems and solutions in every chapter, making the book more useful in teaching (the first edition had a separate solutions manual). The book is intended for graduate and advanced undergraduate students of acoustics, geology and geophysics, applied mathematics, ocean engineering or as a reference in computational methods courses, as well as professionals in these fields, particularly those working in government (especially Navy) and industry labs engaged in the development or use of propagating models.

Book Scattering of Acoustic and Electromagnetic Waves by Small Impedance Bodies of Arbitrary Shapes

Download or read book Scattering of Acoustic and Electromagnetic Waves by Small Impedance Bodies of Arbitrary Shapes written by Alexander G. Ramm and published by . This book was released on 2013-11 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, mathematicians, engineers, physicists, and materials scientists will learn how to create material with a desired refraction coefficient. For example, how to create material with negative refraction or with desired wave-focusing properties. The methods for creating these materials are based on the many-body wave scattering theory developed by the author. The book offers new analytical formulas that allow one to calculate acoustic and electromagnetic waves, scattered by one and many small impedance bodies of an arbitrary shape under various boundary conditions. Equations for the effective (self-consistent) field in media consisting of many small impedance particles are derived. Numerical methods for solving many-body wave scattering problems are developed for small impedance scatterers.
