Book Electrodeionization

Download or read book Electrodeionization written by P. Senthil Kumar and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2024-01-22 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrodeionization: Fundamentals, Methods and Applications explains the latest developments in research on ion exchange membranes, wastewater zero discharge based on ion exchange membranes, membrane capacitive deionization, membrane free and resin wafer electrodeionization cells. Electrodeionization is a fully advanced ion exchange method that combines ion exchange, electrodialysis, and elusion procedures for metal particle removal from wastewater. Gaining popularity due to the lack of chemicals required for resin regeneration and the production of high purity water, this cost-effective method efficiently assists in ion removal and recovery. The technology is suitable for a wide range of applications including desalination, water and wastewater treatment, extraction of high-value products, concentrating and purifying operations, and energy savings, and as such will be of interest to researchers and students working on these areas as well as those in chemicals manufacture, energy generation and storage. - Covers the continuous electrodeionization working principle - Includes multiple applications of electrodeionization - Provides updates on resin-wafer, membrane-free and electrostatically shielded electrodeionization

Book Electromembrane Desalination Processes for Production of Low Conductivity Water

Download or read book Electromembrane Desalination Processes for Production of Low Conductivity Water written by Andrej Grabowski and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2010 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water of very low mineral content, i.e. low ionic conductivity, is required in many industrial processes and laboratory applications. The demand for total output volume and purity of such water has been significantly increasing during the last decades. Electromembrane processes provide a more sustainable and cost effective water purification compared to alternative processes like distillation and ion-exchange deionization. In the first part of the publication a review of processes used for deionization of water is presented and main physicochemical phenomena occurring in electromembrane processes will be discussed. The subsequent parts are devoted to the experimental verification of novel improvements for two electromembrane processes: electrodialysis and continuous electrodeionization. Considering electrodialysis, an investigation on ion-exchange membranes with profiled surfaces will be presented. It includes a section of appropriate membrane manufacturing procedures and desalination tests with profiled membranes. It turns out that electrodialysis with profiled ion-exchange membranes is superior to conventional electrodialysis with flat membranes and spacers, in particular with respect to desalination degree and reduced energy consumption. Considering continuous electrodeionization, experimental studies concerning improvements of continuous electrodeionization with bipolar membranes will be presented and discussed. Influence of ion-exchange membrane permselectivity on the product water quality is demonstrated and proposed improvements are aimed to reduce this influence. Concepts with a so-called protection compartment will be discussed and compared experimentally with a concept where the concentrate compartments are filled with ion exchange resin beads. It will be shown that improved continuous electrodeionization with bipolar membranes is able to produce ultrapure water in a quality comparable to conventional mixed-bed ion-exchangers but in a more cost effective and sustainable way.

Book excerpt: “Blue is the new green.” This is an all-new revised edition of a modern classic on one of the most important subjects in engineering: Water. Featuring a total revision of the initial volume, this is the most comprehensive and up-to-date coverage of the process of desalination in industrial and municipal applications, a technology that is becoming increasingly more important as more and more companies choose to “go green.” This book covers all of the processes and equipment necessary to design, operate, and troubleshoot desalination systems, from the fundamental principles of desalination technology and membranes to the much more advanced engineering principles necessary for designing a desalination system. Earlier chapters cover the basic principles, the economics of desalination, basic terms and definitions, and essential equipment. The book then goes into the thermal processes involved in desalination, such as various methods of evaporation, distillation, recompression, and multistage flash. Following that is an exhaustive discussion of the membrane processes involved in desalination, such as reverse osmosis, forward osmosis, and electrodialysis. Finally, the book concludes with a chapter on the future of these technologies and their place in industry and how they can be of use to society. This book is a must-have for anyone working in water, for engineers, technicians, scientists working in research and development, and operators. It is also useful as a textbook for graduate classes studying industrial water applications.

Download or read book Electron Theory written by Vennie Edwards and published by Scientific e-Resources. This book was released on 2018-11-12 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrical phenomena have been studied since antiquity, though progress in theoretical understanding remained slow until the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Even then, practical applications for electricity were few, and it would not be until the late nineteenth century that electrical engineers were able to put it to industrial and residential use. The rapid expansion in electrical technology at this time transformed industry and society, becoming a driving force for the Second Industrial Revolution. Electricity's extraordinary versatility means it can be put to an almost limitless set of applications which include transport, heating, lighting, communications, and computation. Electrical power is now the backbone of modern industrial society. When you have completed this book, you should be able to describe the principles of electron flow, static electricity, conductors, and insulators and discuss basic electrical concepts and principles of magnetism.
