Book Studies on Porous Monolithic Materials Prepared via Sol Gel Processes

Download or read book Studies on Porous Monolithic Materials Prepared via Sol Gel Processes written by George Hasegawa and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-03 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis focuses on porous monolithic materials that are not in the forms of particles, fibers, or films. In particular, the synthetic strategy of porous monolithic materials via the sol–gel method accompanied by phase separation, which is characterized as the non-templating method for tailoring well-defined macropores, is described from the basics to actual synthesis. Porous materials are attracting more and more attention in various fields such as electronics, energy storage, catalysis, sensing, adsorbents, biomedical science, and separation science. To date, many efforts have been made to synthesize porous materials in various chemical compositions—organics, inorganics including metals, glasses and ceramics, and organic-inorganic hybrids. Also demonstrated in this thesis are the potential applications of synthesized porous monolithic materials to separation media as well as to electrodes for electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs) and Li-ion batteries (LIBs). This work is ideal for graduate students in materials science and is also useful to engineers or scientists seeking basic knowledge of porous monolithic materials.

Book Application of Porous Materials in Electrochemical Sensing Proton Selective 2D Membranes and Electrolyzers

Download or read book Application of Porous Materials in Electrochemical Sensing Proton Selective 2D Membranes and Electrolyzers written by Pavan Chaturvedi and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the nanomaterials, nanoporous materials occupy a special place as they represent macroscopic objects with unique 'nanoscopic' properties but typically produced top down approach. Their applications are quite broad, from filtration, catalysis, and energy materials, to sensors and adsorbents. Here, we discuss some of such applications in the field of biosensors, electrochemistry, and fuel cell technology. We illustrate how a simple sensor for viral particles (mimicked here by MS2 bacteriophage) based on ionic conductivity through nanopores can be realized using anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membrane and a computer sound card as an input/output detector. With the current optimized system, we can achieve the low concentration detection of ~ 7pfu/mL with a working range up to ~ 2000 pfu/mL.
