Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive overview of electrocardiography and the major effects of current cardiac pharmacological therapy on electrocardiography. The text is based on work presented at the International Symposium on Non-invasive Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Therapy, held in May, 1987 at the University of Cologne. The theme of the book is to review, in broad clinical perspective the current state-of-the-art of electrocardiography as it pertains to standard electrocar diograms, exercise testing, ambulatory electrocardiography, electrocardiographic telemetry, and high resolution electrocardiography. Furthermore, advance!, in cardiac drug therapy in relation to diuretics, beta blocking drugs, antiarrhythmic agents and thrombolytic agents are reviewed. The emphasis of the conference and this book is to review the clinical state-of-the-art information and applications in this regard. In the initial section on electrocardiography, Dr. Spodick reviews our present day physiologic and pathophysiologic understanding of systolic time intervals, and how they are affected by a variety of cardiac disease states and pharmacologic agents. Dr. Ellestad examines problems and provides pragmatic tips on exercise testing in the diagnosis of coronary artery disease, and advances in exercise scores and computer analysis. Dr. Graboys reviews the value of exercise testing in the diagnosis and management of patients with serious ventricular arrhythmias. Dr. Kellermann presents the complimentary role that exercise testing plays in com prehensive follow-up therapy of the cardiac patient, and the use of exercise for work and physical training. Detailed information concerning the interaction of cardiac rehabilitation and ventricular arrhythmias are examined.

Book Clinical Electrocardiography

Download or read book Clinical Electrocardiography written by B. L. Chia and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the third edition of the book which was first published in 1985. There has been tremendous progress in the last 10 years since the second edition, especially in the electrocardiography of acute myocardial infarction. With the advent of the thrombolytic era, many new insights into the electrocardiography of acute myocardial infarction have emerged. In this new edition, the sections on posterior myocardial infarction, supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia and anti-arrhythmic drug therapy have all been updated or revised. One of the strengths of the previous two editions has been the quality of the illustrations. In keeping with this tradition, the illustrations in this third edition have been improved further, with 57 (40%) of the 142 illustrations being new. Books, monographs and scientific papers on electrocardiography abound and it would appear that there is little justification for yet another book on this subject. However, despite the voluminous publications, it is difficult to find books on electrocardiography which are simple, concise, accurate and relevant to patient care. This book is the culmination of about 30 years of experience in the teaching of electrocardiography to coronary-care-unit nurses, medical undergraduates, interns, residents and cardiology registrars. As the title of the book implies, the approach to the subject has been entirely from the viewpoint of a clinician. Hence, theoretical considerations have been kept to a mimimum and clinical-electrocardiographic correlations have been emphasized throughout the text.

Book Critical Decisions in Emergency and Acute Care Electrocardiography

Download or read book Critical Decisions in Emergency and Acute Care Electrocardiography written by William J. Brady and published by John Wiley & Sons. Book excerpt: This scenario-based text provides answers to urgent and emergent questions in acute, emergency, and critical care situations focusing on the electrocardiogram in patient care management. The text is arranged in traditional topics areas such as ACS, dysrhythmia, etc yet each chapter is essentially a question with several cases illustrating the clinical dilemma – the chapter itself is a specific answer to the question. This is a unique format among textbooks with an ECG focus. The clinical scenarios cover the issues involved in detecting and managing major cardiovascular conditions. Focused, structured discussion then solves these problems in a clinically relevant, rapid, and easy to read fashion. This novel approach to ECG instruction is ideal for practicing critical care and emergency physicians, specialist nurses, cardiologists, as well as students and trainees with a special interest in the ECG.
