Book An Application of the Finite Element Method to Elastic plastic Problems of Plane Stress

Download or read book An Application of the Finite Element Method to Elastic plastic Problems of Plane Stress written by M. Salmon and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computer program is presented for the small strain analysis of plane structures in the strain hardening elastic-plastic range. The finite element displacement method is used to perform the linear analyses in the iterative scheme. Bar and constant strain isotropic plane stress triangles are available for use in constructing structural idealizations. The use of ten different sets of material properties, three different material laws, and incremental proportional loading are available as options. Good correlation is shown with available test data and theoretical solutions.

Book Development of an Elastic plastic Finite Element Program with the Initial Strain Approach

Download or read book Development of an Elastic plastic Finite Element Program with the Initial Strain Approach written by Vernon Dale Allen and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A finite element method is presented for solution of plane stress and axisymmetric elastic-plastic problems employing the method of successive elastic solutions with the initial strain approach. The problem of nonconvergence of the initial strain approach for perfectly plastic problems was eliminated by expressing the Prandtl-Ruess equations entirely in terms of strain. Two examples are presented to demonstrate the validity of the method"--Abstract, leaf ii.

Book Inelastic Analysis of Solids and Structures

Download or read book Inelastic Analysis of Solids and Structures written by M. Kojic and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-07-28 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inelastic Analysis of Solids and Structures presents in a unified manner the physical and theoretical background of inelastic material models and computational methods, and illustrates the behavior of the models in typical engineering conditions. The book describes experimental observations and principles of mechanics, and efficient computational algorithms for stress calculations as typically performed in finite element analysis. The theoretical background is given to an extent necessary to describe the commonly employed material models in metal isotropic and orthotropic plasticity, thermoplasticity and viscoplasticity, and the plasticity of geological materials. The computational algorithms are developed in a unified manner with some detailed derivations of the algorithmic relations. Many solved examples are presented, which are designed to give insight into the material behavior in various engineering conditions, and to demonstrate the application of the computational algorithms.

Book Elastic Plastic Steady Crack Growth in Plane Stress

Download or read book Elastic Plastic Steady Crack Growth in Plane Stress written by RH. Dean and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results are presented for a crack which is growing quasi-statically under plane-stress conditions. Crack-tip stress and strain fields have been computed by the finite-element method for a crack which is propagating steadily with symmetric small-scale yielding boundary loads (Mode I). The analysis assumes that the material is a standard J2-flow theory elastic-plastic solid exhibiting isotropic-hardening behavior. Results are discussed for various levels of material hardening.

Book The Finite Element Method in Thermomechanics

Download or read book The Finite Element Method in Thermomechanics written by Tai-Ran Hsu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid advances in the nuclear and aerospace technologies in the past two decades compounded with the increasing demands for high performance, energy-efficient power plant components and engines have made reliable thermal stress analysis a critical factor in the design and operation of such equipment. Recently, and as experienced by the author, the need for sophis ticated analyses has been extended to the energy resource industry such as in-situ coal gasification and in-situ oil recovery from oil sands and shales. The analyses in the above applications are of a multidisciplinary nature, and some involve the additional complexity of multiphase and phase change phenomena. These extremely complicated factors preclude the use of classical methods, and numerical techniques such as the finite element method appear to be the most viable alternative solution. The development of this technique so far appears to have concentrated in two extremes; one being overly concerned with the accuracy of results and tending to place all effort in the implementation of special purpose element concepts and computational algorithms, the other being for commercial purposes with the ability of solving a wide range of engineering problems. However, to be versatile, users require substantial training and experience in order to use these codes effectively. Above all, no provision for any modifi cation of these codes by users is possible, as all these codes are proprietary and access to the code is limited only to the owners.
