The elastic results now establish a rather complete set of polarization data in nucleon--deuteron scattering at E/sub N/ = 22.7 MeV, which consists of the proton analyzing power, the deuteron vector and tensor analyzing powers, and vector polarization transfer measurements, as well. 8 references. Book excerpt: We report on a first measurement of tensor analyzing powers in quasi-elastic electron-deuteron scattering at an average three-momentum transfer of 1.7 fm−1. Data sensitive to the spin-dependent nucleon density in the deuteron were obtained for missing momenta up to 150 MeV/c with a tensor polarized 2H target internal to an electron storage ring. The data are well described by a calculation that includes the effects of final-state interaction, meson-exchange and isobar currents, and leading-order relativistic contributions.

Book excerpt: The differential cross section for neutron-deuteron elastic scattering was measured at six angles over the center-of-mass angular range 65° - 1300° and incident neutron energies 140 - 240 MeV at the LANSCE/WNR facility of the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Witala et al. (H. Witala et al.), Phys. Rev. Lett. 81, 1183 (1998) have suggested that the differential cross section for nucleon-deuteron scattering at large angles may be sensitive to the presence of a three-nucleon force. In the present experiment, a liquid deuterium target was exposed to the pulsed neutron beam, with incident neutron energy determined by time of flight. Scattered neutrons, detected by a horizontal array of plastic scintillator bars, and recoil deuterons, detected by [delta] E-E (plastic scintillator - CsI) telescopes, were observed in coincidence. The resulting angular distributions for several incident neutron energies are compared with theoretical predictions and previous measurements in both nd and pd systems.

Book excerpt: Nucleon-Nucleon (NN) interaction derived from nuclear realistic potential, is used to study elastic and inelastic electron scattering form factors in light nuclei, where a microscopic theory is employed to include the effects of high configuration outside the 1p-shell model space, which is called core-polarization (cp) effects. Higher energy excitations from 1s-shell core orbits and also from the valence 1p-shell to higher allowed orbits up to 1d5/2 2s1/2 1d3/2 are considered for core-polarization calculations. the outlined theory of elastic and inelastic electron scattering were presented in chapter two. Chapter three of this book devoted to the derivation of the core-polarization effects with higher configuration in the first order perturbation theory and the two-body matrix elements of three part of the realistic interaction: central, spin orbit and strong tensor force, where the two-body matrix elements calculation in harmonic oscillator single-particle basis using Moshinisky transformation. Results, discussions and conclusion are presented in chapter four.

The aim of the conference was to discuss recent developments in low and medium energy few-particle problems. This included the fields of the nuclear three-body problem; nuclear forces (in particular, three-body forces); symmetries; and the interaction of mesons, leptons, and photons with few-nucleon systems. Special sessions were also devoted to the application of the results and techniques of the few-particle research to the problems of other fields, in particular nuclear structure and astrophysics. The conference was organized into nine plenary sessions and 13 parallel sessions. This volume contains 184 papers presented during the nine sessions on the following topics: the nucleon-nucleon interaction; three-body forces; hypernuclear systems; symmetries; three-body problems; multiparticle reactions; proposed studies of few-nucleon systems with meson factories; few-nucleon systems and leptons, mesons, and photons; and applications.
