This book was released on 2019-08-16 with total page 873 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book The Tropical Silk Road written by Paul Amar and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2022-11-29 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book captures an epochal juncture of two of the world's most transformative processes: the People's Republic of China's rapidly expanding sphere of influence across the global south and the disintegration of the Amazonian, Cerrado, and Andean biomes. The intersection of these two processes took another step in April 2020, when Chinese President Xi Jinping launched a "New Health Silk Road" agenda of aid and investment that would wind through South America, extending the Eurasian-African "Belt and Road Initiative" to a series of mine, port, energy, infrastructure, and agrobusiness megaprojects in the Latin American tropics. Through thirty short essays, this volume brings together an impressive array of contributors, from economists, anthropologists, and political scientists to Black, feminist, and Indigenous community organizers, Chinese stakeholders, environmental activists, and local journalists to offer a pathbreaking analysis of China's presence in South America. As cracks in the progressive legacy of the Pink Tide and the failures of ecocidal right-wing populisms shape new political economies and geopolitical possibilities, this book provides a grassroots-based account of a post-US centered world order, and an accompanying map of the stakes for South America that highlights emerging voices and forms of resistance.

Book excerpt: Siluk' s Tiamat Trilogy, and his book, "Mantic ore " have been compared to Star Trek, Stephen King, Michael Connelly and John Grisham's books. They are compelling, affecting, and portray life at the edge. In this third volume of his Tiamat series, the hero becomes vulnerable, obsessed and somewhat investigative, partly because of his youth, and anxiousness. As with his previous two volumes, he faces the demon world, within his city state of Yort, and outside it. Good fiction will takes you on a journey; what humans could face, is what they will look at. Download or read book Historia de la Comunicaci n Social del Ecuador prensa radio televisi n y cibermedios 1792 2013 written by María Luján González Portela and published by Dykinson. This book was released on 2021-07-23 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Los Encuentros written by Julian Martinez Yordan and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-06 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Territory and Ideology in Latin America written by Kent Eaton and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017-05-26 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Around the world, familiar ideological conflicts over the market are becoming increasingly territorialized in the form of policy conflicts between national and subnational governments. Thanks to a series of trends like globalization, democratization, and especially decentralization, subnational governments are now in a position to more effectively challenge the ideological orientation of the national government. The book conceptualizes these challenges as operating in two related but distinct modes. The first stems from elected subnational officials who use their authority, resources, and legitimacy to design, implement, and defend subnational policy regimes that deviate ideologically from national policy regimes. The second occurs when these same officials use their authority, resources, and legitimacy to question, oppose, and alter the ideological content of national policy regimes. The book focuses on three similarly-situated countries in Latin America where these two types of policy challenges met different fates; neither challenge succeeded in Peru, both succeeded in Bolivia, and Ecuador experienced an intermediate outcome marked by the success of the first type of challenge (i.e. the defence of a deviant, neoliberal subnational policy regime) and the failure of the second (i.e. the inability to alter a statist national policy regime). Derived from the in-depth study of these countries, the book's theoretical argument emphasizes three critical variables: 1) the structural significance of the territory over which subnational elected officials preside, 2) the level of institutional capacity they can harness, and 3) the strength of the societal coalitions they can build both within and across subnational jurisdictions. Transformations in Governance is a major new academic book series from Oxford University Press. It is designed to accommodate the impressive growth of research in comparative politics, international relations, public policy, federalism, environmental and urban studies concerned with the dispersion of authority from central states up to supranational institutions, down to subnational governments, and side-ways to public-private networks. It brings together work that significantly advances our understanding of the organization, causes, and consequences of multilevel and complex governance. The series is selective, containing annually a small number of books of exceptionally high quality by leading and emerging scholars. The series targets mainly single-authored or co-authored work, but it is pluralistic in terms of disciplinary specialization, research design, method, and geographical scope. Case studies as well as comparative studies, historical as well as contemporary studies, and studies with a national, regional, or international focus are all central to its aims. Authors use qualitative, quantitative, formal modeling, or mixed methods. A trade mark of the books is that they combine scholarly rigour with readable prose and an attractive production style. The series is edited by Liesbet Hooghe and Gary Marks of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and Walter Mattli of the University of Oxford.

Download or read book Los Hijos del SOL written by Constantino Jiménez and published by RubySerrano. This book was released on with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book After the Fall written by Suzanne Loftus and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2018-10-15 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume examines the impacts of the 2014-2015 decline in the price of oil. Participants will examine the economic, social and political consequences on states and regions, along with their responses. The following questions will be examined: what were the impacts for countries experiencing an energy revolution in shale and gas like the United States and Canada? What were the repercussions of the collapse on other states of the Western hemisphere dependent on oil for growth and development; countries like Colombia, Venezuela and Mexico? Were these outcomes similar to those experiences in other parts of world like Nigeria, Russia and other petro-producing countries? How do developing countries intend to cope with such drastic and sudden exogenous economic shock? Will there be any benefits for energy poor, consumer countries like China, India and European Union member states? Related to these issues are sustainable developmental questions and concerns about the environment. Will cheap oil force other alternative and renewable energy technologies out of the market given lack of competitiveness? Finally, the volume’s chapters will discuss prospects for governance in the new oil environment.
