Book excerpt: El objetivo de esta tesis fue realizar un análisis de literatura del Sector Automotriz Terminal en México, asi como también la influencia del Tratado de Libre Comercio de América del Norte (TLCAN) en el crecimiento de la economía mexicana. El proceso de desarrollo en muchos países se ha llevado a cabo en diferentes proporciones, por consiguiente existen muchos sectores que participan en la mejora continua del mismo. La importancia de los diferentes sectores en distintas economías radica en el impacto que cada sector tiene en ellas. La industria automotriz ha representado un rol importante y trascendental en el proceso de industrialización de muchas economías, y la mexicana no es la excepción. Esta actividad es precursora de las innovaciones que evolucionaron a la industria manufacturera en su conjunto. El TLCAN ha impactado de manera definitiva el sector automotriz mexicano y a pesar de las dificultades por las que atraviesa, es considerado un factor estratégico en el fortalecimiento de la economía Mexicana y en las relaciones comerciales con otros países. Por esto, es importante tomar ventaja de los beneficios que ofrece la apertura comercial que promueven los países a través de la firma de los tratados y acuerdos comerciales. Existen opiniones en contra y a favor del TLCAN, sin embargo, podemos darnos cuenta que este tratado ha sido de gran beneficio económica para el crecimiento de México en la Industria Automotriz Terminal.

These were a 180º turn from the previous twelve years, when the State invested heavily in corporations and even in oil production and export. If such previous economic structure was similar to a state-led, corporatist but capitalist economy, perhaps the new one would similarly follow a specific model. The question of the study is: after the economic reforms in Mexico between 1982 and 2012, what is the VoC of Mexico? This is about the open market, international free trade and investment, privatisation and other economic reforms that began in Mexico in that period. This book also comments on some indicators of economic wellbeing, as these reflect the results of the reforms. Finally, it makes a critical assessment of those changes, before attempting to answer the research question.

Behind the statistics on trade flows lie power structures, class interests and international hierarchies. These change over time and how countries respond to them has critical implications for their citizen’s well-being. In this book, the history of trade in Australia, Canada and Mexico is analysed. Trade agreements are analysed in detail to explore the new forms that dependence and subordination have taken. Arguing that the free trade agreements are significantly biased in favour of the United States, the contributors analyse how each of the three countries are being subject to specific forms of re-peripheralisation and examine possible alternatives for a progressive future based on an integration in the global economy which enhances, rather than limits, democracy and social justice. By providing an historical and critical account of trade policy in the three countries, the book provides a welcome antidote to the ahistorical accounts of free trade supporters.
