El abanico de soluciones entre el Estado confesional y el Estado laico, condicionan el propio régimen del derecho de libertad religiosa; la prevención y cautela ante los nuevos movimientos religiosos, llamados sectas, refleja la subordinación de la libertad religiosa a la concepción estatal de lo religioso: confesional, de religión dominante, de cooperación o simplemente laico. En nuestra opinión, las diferencias entre Europa y Estados Unidos en materia de libertad religiosa se encuentran en ese momento crucial de la elaboración del texto de la Declaración de Derechos del Hombre y del Ciudadano y por esa razón, esta monografía constituye una aportación documental y doctrinal ciertamente estimable, que puede ayudar a comprender la propia concepción actual del derecho de libertad religiosa.
