Die wohl bekannteste Arbeit entstand über das Torre-de-David-Hochhaus, die auf der Architekturbiennale von Venedig 2012 mit dem Goldenen Löwen ausgezeichnet wurde. El principio de la causalidad, y la independencia de “causa-efecto” del observador, es cuestionado por el paradigma complejo, para el que en la gestión del conocimiento el propio observador está imputado como un dato o suceso en el propio proceso. La profesora García-Hípola nos conduce por su ensayo a escenarios teórico-críticos a través de su propia experiencia, incluso de su protagonismo en los procesos, reflexiones y cuestiones que analiza. Es desde esa complejidad desde la que reivindica implícitamente en su texto la transversalidad entre autor, espectador, docente y creador, literalmente en las citas referidas a experiencias sobre la obra de El Bosco, o en las que somete al arquitecto a nuevos roles que devienen del comportamiento de la materia como un auténtico ecólogo o los del propio antropólogo que explora la acción del ser humano y sus detritus en el paisaje, como en su proyecto para Villajoyosa, verdadero tratado de “arquitectura de campo”. In The Landscape of Architecture the author has remarkably surpassed the contradiction between a necessarily logical-linear explanation, to facilitate the intelligibility of the content, and its vast complexity. This is an inescapable complexity for a trustworthy description and analysis of contemporary knowledge. Commitment to our historical time involves assuming that the logical positivist paradigm has been wrapped, not displaced, by the paradigm of complexity. The principle of causality, and the independence between “cause and effect” of the observer, is questioned by the complex paradigm, for which, in the management of knowledge, the observer is ascribed as data or event of the process itself. In her essay professor García-Hípola leads us to theoretical-critical scenarios through her own experience, including her protagonism in the processes, reflections, and issues that she analyzes. From this complexity, the transversality between author, spectator, teacher and creator is claimed, literally in the quotes of the experiences about Hieronymus Bosch’s work, or in those where the architect is subjected to new roles that come from matter’s behavior, as a true ecologist, or those of the anthropologist who explores human action and its detritus in the landscape, as in her project for Villajoyosa, veritable treatise of “field architecture”.

Nowadays, nobody doubts that we are immersed in a process of change and technological innovation that fully affects the industry, and the construction sector is no stranger to it. Advances in technology and its application to everyday life, the excessive consumption of natural resources and the need to apply circular economy strategies, or the development of new sustainable construction materials, are some of the issues addressed in this book. Thus, in line with European guidelines and the Sustainable Development Goals set out in the 2030 Agenda, the European Union has established a roadmap that promotes responsible economic growth. It is for this reason that it is essential to address new ways of conceiving building in our country, and for this reason, it has been essential to have various collaborators from renowned Universities and Research Centres that have wanted to be part of this work. Undoubtedly, all the original research presented here deals with the process of innovation in building and is linked to the common paradigm of sustainability. However, despite the complexity of some of the topics covered in this compendium, the authors have tried to unify the criteria of academic rigour and agile and accessible presentation. For this reason, it is understood that this book is suitable both for doctoral students and researchers, as well as for people interested in popularising science with a basic training. This is perhaps the strong point of this work, which has been polished as a result of the criticisms received from all those colleagues who have been kind enough to read the final document and help to improve it. We would also like to thank all the authors who have responded to our call and have kindly contributed their excellent research to the creation of this book. The works that make up the different Chapters have been selected through a blind peer review process and are the result of the wide-ranging concerns and issues that are of concern to building professionals in the year 2024. The network’s purpose is to foster the creation of transdisciplinary (and not only multidisciplinary) initiatives focused on the study of all assets, movable or immovable, that make up Cultural Heritage. The congress was dedicated to six topics, namely (1) Environmental assessment and monitoring (pollution, climate change, natural events, etc.) of Cultural Heritage; (2) New products and materials for conservation and maintenance of Cultural Heritage; (3) Agents and mechanisms of deterioration of Cultural Heritage (physical, chemical, biological), including deterioration of modern materials used in Contemporary Art and information storage; (4) Development of new instruments, non invasive technologies and innovative solutions for analysis, protection and conservation of Cultural Heritage; (5) Security technologies, remote sensing and G.I.S. for the protection and management of Cultural Heritage; and (6) Significance, social value and policies for the conservation of Cultural Heritage. This volume publishes a total of seventy-two contributions which reflect some of the most recent responses to the challenge of cultural assets conservation and the application of different scientific approaches to the common goal of the conservation of Cultural Heritage.
