Book Permiso para hablar

Download or read book Permiso para hablar written by Samara Bay and published by Océano. This book was released on 2023-09-10 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Samara Bay

Book Presente

  • Author : Cristina Tzintzún
  • Publisher : AK Press

  • Pages : 266 pages

Download or read book Presente written by Cristina Tzintzún and published by AK Press. This book was released on 2014-04-21 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Read the media coverage of the increasingly heated debate around immigration reform in the United States: two dominant narratives emerge. From Lou Dobbs to Sean Hannity, commentators on the right have crafted an image rooted in fear, demonizing undocumented immigrants as a threat to national security and raising the specter of a deliberate "browning of America." Left-leaning journalists, on the other hand, foreground victimization, emphasizing the plight of immigrants, stripping them of their agency. Neither captures the range of experiences within undocumented immigrant communities, and both fail to see immigrants as active participants in their own struggle for racial and economic justice. Presente! offers a rare perspective on the immigrant-rights movement, written by immigrant workers themselves. Including a range of essays exploring the intersection of race, class, and immigration in the United States, this anthology challenges its readers to move beyond a "legalization-only" framework and embrace a broader vision for social justice organizing embodied in the work of grassroots organizations across the country resisting state repression, cultivating solidarity, and building alternative models for progressive social change. Offered in a dual-language edition, with a foreword by Democracy Now! co-host Juan Gonzáles. Cristina Tzintzún is the executive director of Workers Defense Project, a Texas based workers' rights organization. Carlos Pérez de Alejo is the executive director of Cooperation Texas, an organization dedicated to the creation of sustainable jobs through the development, support, and promotion of worker-owned cooperatives. Arnulfo Manríquez is an organizer at Workers Defense Project, where he organizes immigrant construction workers to defend their labor and human rights.

Everybody longs to hear God's voice. God's people is eager to hear the voice of God. Thousands seek it constantly, but only a few know how to get to hear it, and they do not fully understand why it is so important to learn to listen to that voice. People frequently think that being able to hear God's Voice is a privilege for the few, or for church leaders. Truth is that the Holy Spirit and His Voice are available for everyone who pursue them. In this book, Alberto and Silvia Salcedo, witnesses of the 1972 revolutionary revival in Bolivia, teach the readers, step by step, how to listen to that voice and receive the power that unbinds when people act under His guidance.

Book Speculative Fictions

Download or read book Speculative Fictions written by Alessandro Fornazzari and published by University of Pittsburgh Pre. This book was released on 2014-06-27 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Speculative Fictions views the Chilean neoliberal transition as reflected in cultural production from the postdictatorship era of the 1970s to the present. To Alessandro Fornazzari, the move to market capitalism effectively blurred the lines between economics and aesthetics, perhaps nowhere more evidently than in Chile. Through exemplary works of film, literature, the visual arts, testimonials, and cultural theory, Fornazzari reveals the influence of economics over nearly every aspect of culture and society. Citing Karl Marx, Michel Foucault, Walter Benjamin, Willy Thayer, Milton Friedman, and others, Fornazzari forms the theoretical basis for his neoliberal transitional discourse as a logical progression of capitalism. Fornazzari identifies Casa de campo, Jose Donoso's allegory of the military coup of 1973 and the ensuing monetary crisis, as a harbinger of transitional texts, challenging them to explore new forms of abstraction. Those forms are explored in the novels Oir su voz by Arturo Fontaine and Mano de obra by Diamela Eltit, where Fornazzari examines divergent views of workers in the form of neoliberal human capital or post-Fordist immaterial labor. In documentaries by Patricio Guzman and Silvio Caiozzi, he juxtaposes depictions of mass mobilization and protest to the mass marketing of individual memory and loss, claiming they serve as symbols of the polarities of dictatorship and neoliberalism. Fornazzari then relates the subsuming of the individual under both fascism and neoliberalism by recalling the iconic imbunche (a mutilated figure whose orifices have been sewn closed) in works by Donoso and the visual artist Catalina Parra. He continues the theme of subsumption in his discussion of the obliteration of the divide between physical labor and intellectualism under neoliberalism, as evidenced in the detective novel A la sombra del dinero by Ram—n Diaz Eterovic. In these examples and others, Fornazzari presents a firmly grounded theoretical analysis that will appeal to Latin Americanists in general and to those interested in the intersection of economics and culture. The Chilean experience provides a case study that will also inform students and scholars of neoliberal transitions globally.

Book Descentralizacion para Satisfacer Necesidades Basicas

Download or read book Descentralizacion para Satisfacer Necesidades Basicas written by J. Michael McGuire and published by IAP. This book was released on 2009-03-01 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Approximately 25% of Latin Americans live on less than $2 a day, and Latin America is the most unequal region of the world. Poverty and inequality cause suffering and slow development. The solution must include generating an inclusive development process through satisfying the basic needs of the poor that enhance their productivity, that enable them to contribute to the development process, and that enables them to earn the income necessary to live a full life. Decentralization of taxing and spending from the central government to lower levels of government can help to satisfy basic needs of the poor and create an inclusive development process. However, decentralization is a stepby-step process that must implemented by taking into account real-world circumstances such as a lack of administrative ability in local government, and by formulating policy accordingly. The book derives economic principles for implementing the process of decentralization, and it presents cases that illustrate the principles at work. It is an economic guide for policymakers and practitioners.
