This book was released on 2019-04-23 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited collection explores the ways in which the 2008/2009 social and economic crisis in Southern Europe affected the interpretation of the transitional past in Spain, Greece and Portugal. Discussing topics such as public memory, Europeanism and uses of the past by grassroots movements, the volume showcases how the crisis challenged consolidated perceptions of the transitions as ‘success stories’. It revisits the dominant historical narratives around Southern European transitions to democracy more than forty years since the demise of authoritarian regimes, bringing together contributors from history, cultural studies, political science and sociology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within just a generation or two of its arrival, print had become a ubiquitous and spirited part of Spain and Portugal’s urban cultures. It serviced an ever-expanding reading public, as well as many and varied practical quotidian needs. Its impact on society was multi-dimensional and complex, and its social reach far broader than the civic or ecclesiastical elites were ever to be entirely comfortable with. This cross-disciplinary volume of essays focuses on the maturing marketplace for print in the first half of the seventeenth century, shedding new light on some important transformations, with authors and publishers seizing opportunities available to them – negotiating the regulatory efforts of the censors, and scrambling to reconfigure their relationship with their readers.

Book Agust n Jim nez

    Book Details:
  • Author : Agustín Jiménez
  • Publisher : Editorial Rm
  • Release : 2008
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 200 pages

Download or read book Agust n Jim nez written by Agustín Jiménez and published by Editorial Rm. This book was released on 2008 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mexico City-born photographer Agustín Jiménez (1901-1974) was at the center of his country's flourishing avant-garde, which emerged in the 1920s when international photographers like Edward Weston and Tina Modotti began to travel extensively there and relationships between the local and foreign artists led to aesthetic breakthroughs on both sides. Jiménez is known for crafting an indigenous version of Romantic Pictorialism very akin to Weston's. Jiménez also collaborated closely with the Mexican illustrated press throughout the 1920s and 30s, and in the latter decade became involved with the country's burgeoning motion picture industry--first as a still photographer and then as a cinematographer, in collaboration with such seminal figures as Sergei Eisenstein, Adolfo Best Maugard and Fernando de Fuentes. This volume contains a substantial selection of Jiménez's photographs and provides a deserved overview of his rich oeuvre.
