Download or read book Esther Tusquets written by Nina L. Molinaro and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-06-12 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume reviews and revisits the life and work of Spanish writer, editor, and intellectual Esther Tusquets (1936–2012). The author of some seven novels, three collections of short stories, two books for children, seven volumes of essays and memoirs, and an extensive corpus of journalistic and other short prose texts, Tusquets’s contributions to contemporary Spanish culture and literature are vast and heterogeneous. Most academic scholarship to date has been dedicated to Tusquets’s groundbreaking novelistic trilogy (El mismo mar de todos los veranos [1978], El amor es un juego solitario [1979], Varada tras el último naufragio [1980]) and to her unified short-story collection, Siete miradas en el mismo paisaje (1979). The essays contained in Esther Tusquets: Scholarly Correspondences offer new readings of the author’s canonical fiction and delve into the largely unexplored terrain of her non-fiction. Participating faculty-scholars include Nina L. Molinaro (University of Colorado at Boulder); Maureen Tobin Stanley (University of Minnesota Duluth); Inmaculada Pertusa-Seva (Western Kentucky University); Laura Lonsdale (Queen’s College, University of Oxford); Stacey Dolgin Casado (University of Georgia); Abigail Lee Six (Royal Holloway, University of London); María Elena Soliño (University of Houston); Mayte de Lama (Elon University); Catherine G. Bellver (University of Nevada, Las Vegas); Rosalía Cornejo Parriego (University of Ottawa); Meri Torras Francès (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona); and Mary S. Vázquez (Davidson College). The volume concludes with a complete bibliography by Tiffany L. Malloy of works by and about Tusquets.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Cuentos y Misterios written by Norberto Hernandez and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-11 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Bend ceme Ultima written by Rudolfo Anaya and published by Grand Central Publishing. This book was released on 2024-09-17 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Full of “sensual dreams [and] unexplained phenomena,” this "best-known and most-respected" coming-of-age classic from the godfather of Chicano literature follows a young boy growing up in the llano, or plains, of post-World War II New Mexico, and the generous curandera who introduces him to the sacred side of life (New York Times). A PBS Great American Read · Winner of the Premio Quinto Sol Award · Recipient of the National Humanities Medal · With a new Foreword by author, playwright, and stage director Denise Chavez; a new Afterword by award-winning journalist and author Carmela Padilla; and a new essay by Manuel Muñoz, a Macarthur Fellow and winner of the Joyce Carol Oates Prize. “I pulled this baby into the light of life . . . Only I will know his destiny.” Antonio Marez is six years old when the woman who helped usher him into the world comes to stay with his family in New Mexico. Venerated by some as a miracle-worker—and disparaged by others as a bruja—Ultima, a curandera, or healer, opens Tony’s eyes to the spiritual roots of his culture, and introduces him to a magical, if sometimes frightening, new world: a realm in which she operates as a shaman. Suddenly, the ordinary challenges and triumphs of childhood become extraordinary. As Ultima shows Tony how to cure ailments, reverse curses, and restore peace to those who have lost it, he embarks on a singular quest, one in which he probes the family ties that bind and rend him, questions the Catholicism that shaped him, and explores the Spanish, Mexican, and Native American influences that informed not only his heritage, but his very sense of self. And at each life turn there is Ultima, who was there the day he was born . . . and will nurture the birth of his soul. A rich and wondrous story that reveals universal truths about the human condition and celebrates the beauty of Chicano culture. Includes a Reading Group Guide.

This lyrical, stunning picture book is a warm-hearted tribute to siblings and their magical bond, with stunning art by award-winning illustrator Sonja Wimmer. It’s true that sometimes we fight when we want to play with the same toys. But when night falls, we snuggle up together and fall asleep while we read fairy tales to each other. We’re similar in so many ways! And we’re different in others. But one thing is for sure, and that is that we’ll always be there to help each other out. It doesn’t matter if stormy nights or evening shadows come to visit us. As long as we are together, we will get through them. We’ve learned so many things together, and discovered that the day and the night, even though they seem so different, form a part of the same melody. Brothers & Sisters is an inclusive picture book, both for boys and girls, for brothers by blood and for brothers of life. Both sisters and brothers appear in this magic tale that will delight the little ones in the house.
