Book Adi s al capitalismo

Download or read book Adi s al capitalismo written by Jérôme Baschet and published by NED Ediciones. This book was released on 2015-03 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Latin America since 1780

Download or read book Latin America since 1780 written by Will Fowler and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-03-07 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although largely sharing a common past and language, the countries in Latin America remain distinct entities with their own identities. Latin America since 1780 provides a continental-based historical narrative which stresses the common themes between countries like Mexico in North America to Argentina in the Southern Cone, while at the same time highlighting their specific national contexts. This book focuses on key events such as the Mexican-American War, the Cuban Revolution, and the overthrow of Salvador Allende's government, as well as providing short inserts on the main political protagonists such as Simon Bolívar, Getulio Vargas and the Subcomandante Marcos. This new edition has been fully updated to include recent events and trends including Hugo Chávez's 'Bolivarian Revolution' in Venezuela, Evo Morales' electoral victory in Bolivia, and the so-called Pink Tide that has resulted in the emergence of a variety of socialist-leaning governments in the region. At the same time, the book discusses Latin America's cultural diversity, paying particular attention to the response of writers and film makers to the historical contexts covered in the book. A range of pedagogical devices and a lively prose style makes this book the ideal introduction to Latin American history. Written in an accessible style and assuming no prior knowledge, the books in this series address the specific needs of students on language courses, as well as anyone with an interest in modern history. Approaching the study of history via contemporary politics and society, each book offers a clear historical narrative and sets the country or region concerned in the context of the wider world.

Book Globalization Export Orientated Employment and Social Policy

Download or read book Globalization Export Orientated Employment and Social Policy written by S. Razavi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-04-30 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gender and development theory and analysis is replete with implicit assumptions that women's entry into the world of paid work will positively affect their status both in the household and in the public sphere. Until recently the debate on global factories and export production has remained focused on women's individual experience of export employment- and the extent to which this represents a positive opportunity or gross exploitation. In spite of the extended discussion of rights and citizenship in the global economy, little attention has hitherto been paid to the implications for women's entitlements arising out of their pivotal role in export sectors. Whilst many assume that women's visible and crucial presence in key economic sectors will be reflected in the ways in which social policies are formulated, there has been up to now little empirical and analytical engagement with this question. This volume, bringing together detailed commissioned studies from six developing countries, aims to fill this gap.

This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Medicine and Public Health at the End of Empire

Download or read book Medicine and Public Health at the End of Empire written by Howard Waitzkin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-11-17 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent financial meltdown has brought notable changes to the global practice of health care changes that have often escaped the American news media. Although Western managed-care corporations previously had strengthened their influence abroad, now many countries are considering new approaches to health care for their citizens. The untold story of how corporations have influenced global health care and the impacts now in America as the system rapidly shifts is Dr. Waitzkin s subject in his provocative new book. We now live in a new era in which the prospects for more humane approaches to health care are taking root. Strengthening access and improving public health are at the heart of the many previously little-noted struggles and actions by individuals, groups, and whole nations to put control back in the hands of patients and practitioners, as Americans of many political stripes seem to universally seek. The impacts of these changes in the United States are considerable, and they are amply illustrated by Dr. Waitzkin as the United States attempts to reorient its own system of care.Selected as the 2012 winner of the Freidson Outstanding Publication Award by the American Sociological Association for its "bold and timely analysis of the global political economy of contemporary crises in health and medical care. By presenting the lessons learned from social medicine (past and present), [it] outlines a macro-sociologically informed response to these crises.""
