Book The Memoirs of Casanova

Download or read book The Memoirs of Casanova written by Giacomo Casanova and published by Phoemixx Classics Ebooks. This book was released on 2021-11-15 with total page 2931 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Memoirs of Casanova Giacomo Casanova - With 'The Memoirs of Casanova,' William Pocock offers us a newly abridged translation of Giacomo Casanova's notorious 'Story of My Life.' Casanova dashed through an extremely controversial life in pursuit of love and fortune that is well worth reading. In his final years he wrote down his memoirs to make confession, reflect on his many adventures, and describe the vast array of people he met in brilliant detail. Perhaps too much detail, as his 1.25 million words, though very entertaining, are a bit more than most busy readers are willing to endure. This edition seamlessly distills his story from 3,875 into 1,188 pages, encompassing his entire life. Casanova's deep interest in romantic poetry, Greco-Roman myth, and Enlightenment ideals inspired his driving passions, with countless lovers and broken promises left behind. Casanova's great love affairs, the diverse variety of his seductions, are maintained here to offer the reader a representation of the whole. His memoirs are most engaging in his pursuit of romance, intense intrigues, and impassioned letters, fully explored in this essential version. The Chevalier de Seingalt was much more than the libertine playboy of popular imagination, as the following pages will reveal. If his memoirs are now considered a great masterpiece of French literature, it's largely due to its historical significance. Casanova's extensive travels and a lifetime of journalism enabled him to offer insightful portraits of the various humble and notable inhabitants of 18th century Europe. Through the magic of his words that distant world springs to life for us now and forever. In recent years, his memoirs have risen from the depths of moral outrage to the most exalted dignity within his beloved France. In 2011 his original manuscript, designated a 'national treasure' by the French government, was acquired by the National Library for $9.6 million, the institution's most expensive acquisition to date.

Download or read book El Cuerpo un Espacio Pedag Gico written by Norma Delia Dur N. Amavizca and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his encyclical Aeterni Patris (1879), Pope Leo XIII expressed the conviction that the renewed study of the philosophical legacy of Saint Thomas Aquinas would help Catholics to engage in a dialogue with secular modernity while maintaining respect for Church doctrine and tradition. As a result, the neo-scholastic framework dominated Catholic intellectual production for nearly a century thereafter. This volume assesses the societal impact of the Thomist revival movement, with particular attention to the juridical dimension of this epistemic community. Contributions from different disciplinary backgrounds offer a multifaceted and in-depth analysis of many different networks and protagonists of the neo-scholastic movement, its institutions and periodicals, and its conceptual frameworks. Although special attention is paid to the Leuven Institute of Philosophy and Faculty of Law, the volume also discloses the neo-Thomist revival in other national and transnational contexts. By highlighting diverse aspects of its societal and legal impact, Neo-Thomism in Action argues that neo-scholasticism was neither a sterile intellectual exercise nor a monolithic movement. The book expands our understanding of how Catholic intellectual discourse communities were constructed and how they pervaded law and society during the late 19th century and the first half of the 20th century.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The existence of World Literature depends on specific processes, institutions, and actors involved in the global circulation of literary works. The contributions of this volume aim to pay attention to these multiple material dimensions of Latin American 20th and 21st century literatures. From perspectives informed by materialism, sociology, book studies, and digital humanities, the articles of this volume analyze the role of publishing houses, politics of translation, mediators and gatekeepers, allowing insights into the processes that enable books to cross borders and to be transformed into globally circulating commodities. The book focusses both on material (re)sources of literary archives, key actors in literary and cultural markets, prizes and book fairs, as well as on recent dimension of the digital age. Statements of some of the leading representatives of the global publishing world complement these analyses of the operations of selection and aggregation of value to literary texts.

Book excerpt: Casanova: Part 10 - Under The Leads The Memoirs of Jacques Casanova De Seingalt by Giacomo Casanova This earthquake shock was the result of those which at the same time destroyed Lisbon. The Leads, used for the confinement of state prisoners, are in fact the lofts of the ducal palace, and take their name from the large plates of lead with which the roof is covered. One can only reach them through the gates of the palace, the prison buildings, or by the bridge of which I have spoken called the Bridge of Sighs. The prisons are under the roof on two sides of the palace; three to the west (mine being among the number) and four to the east. On the west the roof looks into the court of the palace, and on the east straight on to the canal called Rio di Palazzo.
