Book Nuclear Science Abstracts

Download or read book Nuclear Science Abstracts written by and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 1462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NSA is a comprehensive collection of international nuclear science and technology literature for the period 1948 through 1976, pre-dating the prestigious INIS database, which began in 1970. NSA existed as a printed product (Volumes 1-33) initially, created by DOE's predecessor, the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). NSA includes citations to scientific and technical reports from the AEC, the U.S. Energy Research and Development Administration and its contractors, plus other agencies and international organizations, universities, and industrial and research organizations. References to books, conference proceedings, papers, patents, dissertations, engineering drawings, and journal articles from worldwide sources are also included. Abstracts and full text are provided if available.

Book Applied Geotechnology

Download or read book Applied Geotechnology written by A. Roberts and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied Geotechnology deals with rock excavation and related topics such as the stability of soil and rock slopes, earthquakes, and earthquake engineering. Some basic ideas and fundamentals that are applicable to specific aspects of geotechnical engineering are described. Blasting technology is also discussed. along with water supply, oil and gas storage, the disposal of radioactive wastes, and the effects of mining on the surface environment. This book is comprised of 15 chapters and begins with a look at rock excavation by blasting, with emphasis on the blasting action of an explosive charge in solid material as well as the process of detonation in a high explosive. Vibrations and noise generated by blasting and other engineering processes are also considered, along with the techniques used in rock and earth excavation such as down-the-hole drilling, rotary rock drilling, roller-bit drilling, and rotary-percussive rock drilling. The following chapters focus on rock ripping and cutting; rapid tunnelling; the environmental and engineering aspects of the movement and control of groundwater; underground storage of oil and gas; pillar support of underground excavations; and ground-reinforcement techniques. The final chapter is devoted to ground movement, caving, and subsidence. This monograph is written primarily for engineers and is intended as a class text for first- and second-year students of geological, mining, and civil engineering at university and technical college.

Book Airblast and Craters from Rows of Two to Twenty five Buried He Charges

Download or read book Airblast and Craters from Rows of Two to Twenty five Buried He Charges written by Luke J. Vortman and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Airblast was measured perpendicular to and off the ends of row-charge explosions and compared with airblast from single charges. It was found that Prow was approx. n(B) Psingle, where P is peak overpressure and n the number of charges. B was different for each blast parameter examined: ground-shock-induced peak overpressure, peak overpressure from venting gas, peak negative pressure, and positive and negative impulse. Values of P increased as spacing decreased. Airblast was always greater perpendicular to the row than off the end, by an amount which increased as the number of charges increased.

Book Explosive Excavation Technology

Download or read book Explosive Excavation Technology written by Stanley M. Johnson and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report is the first comprehensive textbook on a relatively new method of construction originating from research into the large-scale use of explosives for construction purposes. The central idea is that explosives can be made to do more work for the civil engineer than just break up rock: various types of excavations and explosion-generated effects can be designed and produced safely, quickly, and in many cases cheaper than by the use of other techniques. The overall concept, design approach and procedures, and the operational consequences of using currently available techniques are fully described. Emphasis is on the adaptability of the method, and its present and future potential as a cost competitive tool in various construction roles. The report deals with the mechanism of crater formation and characteristics of explosion-produced craters. It covers the types of projects where such craters have useful application; how to choose the proper explosive; how to design the charge emplacement and firing system; and how to evaluate the potential hazardous effects from detonation. The field operations associated with using the method are described and the postshot engineering considerations are discussed. An example is given illustrating how to analyze a typical excavation project. (Author).
