Book Einstein Relatively Simple Our Universe Revealed In Everyday Language

Download or read book Einstein Relatively Simple Our Universe Revealed In Everyday Language written by Ira Mark Egdall and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2014-01-06 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Outstanding Academic Title for 2014' by CHOICEEinstein Relatively Simple brings together for the first time an exceptionally clear explanation of both special and general relativity. It is for people who always wanted to understand Einstein's ideas but never thought they could.Told with humor, enthusiasm, and rare clarity, this entertaining book reveals how a former high school drop-out revolutionized our understanding of space and time. From E=mc2 and everyday time travel to black holes and the big bang, Einstein Relatively Simple takes us all, regardless of our scientific backgrounds, on a mind-boggling journey through the depths of Einstein's universe. Along the way, we track Einstein through the perils and triumphs of his life — follow his thinking, his logic, and his insights — and chronicle the audacity, imagination, and sheer genius of the man recognized as the greatest scientist of the modern era.In Part I on special relativity we learn how time slows and space shrinks with motion, and how mass and energy are equivalent. Part II on general relativity reveals a cosmos where black holes trap light and stop time, where wormholes form gravitational time machines, where space itself is continually expanding, and where some 13.7 billion years ago our universe was born in the ultimate cosmic event — the Big Bang.

Book excerpt: Nonspecialists with no prior knowledge of physics and only reasonable proficiency with algebra can now understand Einstein's special theory of relativity. Effectively diagrammed and with an emphasis on logical structure, Leo Sartori's rigorous but simple presentation will guide interested readers through concepts of relative time and relative space. Sartori covers general relativity and cosmology, but focuses on Einstein's theory. He tracks its history and implications. He explores illuminating paradoxes, including the famous twin paradox, the "pole-in-the-barn" paradox, and the Loedel diagram, which is an accessible, graphic approach to relativity. Students of the history and philosophy of science will welcome this concise introduction to the central concept of modern physics.

Book Einstein s Mass Energy Equation

Download or read book Einstein s Mass Energy Equation written by Francisco Fernflores and published by Momentum Press. This book was released on 2017-10-11 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this second volume, we examine the role that Einstein’s mass–energy equation played in the development of two important theories in early twentieth century physics: de Broglie’s “matter waves” and general relativity as a theory of gravitation. We also discuss the first empirical confirmation of E = mc2 by Cockcroft and Walton. We investigate the somewhat surprising fact that Cockcroft and Walton’s paper reporting their result makes no mention of either Einstein or his famous equation. Finally, we examine some of the contemporary debates concerning how the mass–energy relation should be taught and understood philosophically. We close with some suggestions for future research.

Book Astrophysics Simplified

    Book Details:
  • Author : Madhur Sorout
  • Publisher : Notion Press
  • Release : 2019-08-19
  • ISBN : 164587883X
  • Pages : 177 pages

Download or read book Astrophysics Simplified written by Madhur Sorout and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2019-08-19 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is basically an introductory book on astrophysics for general readers. It takes the reader through the major developments in Physics from Aristotle and Ptolemy (science was actually philosophy in the Aristotelian Era) to modern day Physicists like Stephen Hawking and Richard Muller. The book starts from various concepts of Classical Physics, the Theory of Relativity & Quantum Physics and then comes to the topics of Astrophysics and Cosmology, which is probably the best way to understand the subject for a general reader. There is limited mathematics in this book, but some major equations are included because one cannot grasp the true ‘beauty’ in physics without seeing the mathematical or abstract parts alongside practical laws. Physics is to mathematics what Tony Stark (Iron Man) is to J.A.R.V.I.S. or F.R.I.D.AY. The groundwork of computations, statistics, simulations etc. is done by F.R.I.D.A.Y. But, the real work of fighting the villains is done by Iron Man!

Book Einstein s Physics

Download or read book Einstein s Physics written by Ta-Pei Cheng and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2013-01-31 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many regard Albert Einstein as the greatest physicist since Newton. What exactly did he do that is so important in physics? We provide an introduction to his physics at a level accessible to an undergraduate physics student. All equations are worked out in detail from the beginning. Einstein's doctoral thesis and his Brownian motion paper were decisive contributions to our understanding of matter as composed of molecules and atoms. Einstein was one of the founding fathers of quantum theory: his photon proposal through the investigation of blackbody radiation, his quantum theory of photoelectric effect and specific heat, his calculation of radiation fluctuation giving the first statement of wave-particle duality, his introduction of probability in the description of quantum radiative transitions, and finally the quantum statistics and Bose-Einstein condensation. Einstein's special theory of relativity gave us the famous E=mc² relation and the new kinematics leading to the idea of the 4-dimensional spacetime as the arena in which physical events take place. Einstein's geometric theory of gravity, general relativity, extends Newton's theory to time-dependent and strong gravitational fields. It laid the ground work for the study of black holes and cosmology. This is a physics book with material presented in the historical context. We do not stop at Einstein's discovery, but carry the discussion onto some of the later advances: Bell's theorem, quantum field theory, gauge theories and Kaluza-Klein unification in a spacetime with an extra spatial dimension. Accessibility of the material to a modern-day reader is the goal of our presentation. Although the book is written with primarily a physics readership in mind (it can also function as a textbook), enough pedagogical support material is provided that anyone with a solid background in introductory physics can, with some effort, understand a good part of this presentation.
