Der Versuch, die schwierigen Probleme einer Theorie makroskopischer Vorgänge aufzuzeigen, ohne allzu viel Mathe matik beim Leser vorauszusetzen, mußte in diesem Band gewagt werden, um die vielfach herrschende Verschleierung dieser Probleme hinter Schlagworten zu zerreißen. Auch mit der Physik zusammenhängende Probleme mußten aufgezeigt werden. In diesem Zusammenhang sei bemerkt, daß die handschriftliche Aus arbeitung auch des »Dialogs« schon im Juli 1977 fertiggestellt war und bewußt nicht mehr geändert wurde, obwohl inzwischen manche Entwicklungen zu Hinweisen gereizt hätten. Dem Verlag danke ich für das Entgegenkommen, Erweiterungen des Um fangs und zeitliche Verzögerungen hingenommen und so diese in sich zusam menhängende Darstellung ermöglicht zu haben. Die genannten Werke sind bei aller Schönheit im einzelnen wie in der Gesamtkonzeption, die ihre Benutzung auch heute noch zu einem Genuß machen können, aus einer Idee heraus geschrieben, die nicht mehr dem Bilde entspricht, das die Physik heute darbietet. Der tiefe Einschnitt, der die Physik vor Begrün dung der Quantenmechanik von der heutigen Physik nach Begründung der Quantenmechanik trennt, kommt im Aufbau dieser Werke noch nicht zum Ausdruck. Dort ist die Quantentheorie vielmehr ein Appendix an den in sich geschlossenen Bau der klassischen Physik; eben diese klassi sche Physik darzustellen, ist das Anliegen der Verfasser, und die klare Durchsichtigkeit, die innere Harmonie dieses Baues soll etwas von ihrer klassischen Ausgeglichenheit und in sich ruhenden Schönheit auf den Lernenden ausstrahlen. Dies Ziel kann in sehr verschiedenen Formen, je nach Temperament und Anlage des Verfassers angestrebt werden.
