Download or read book First report on the operation of the Terrorist Asset Freezing etc Act 2010 written by David Anderson and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2011-12-15 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Act under review gives the Treasury power to freeze the assets of individuals and groups thought to be involved in terrorism, whether in the UK or abroad, and to deprive them of access to financial resources. It implements UN Security Council Resolution 1373 and is one of a number of measures at the Government's disposal for preventing the financing of terrorism. At the end of the review period in September 2011: 30 individuals and 8 groups were designated by the Treasury under the Act. This is much reduced from the figure in previous years, owing largely to the removal of duplicate designations. Each of the designated groups had been listed since 2001, as had some of the designated individuals. No individual or group was designated during the review period. No individual or group associated with Northern Ireland was designated, despite continuing terrorist activity there. The prohibitions in the Act applied also to 22 individuals and 25 groups listed by the EU under Regulation 2580/2001. The total quantity of assets frozen, taking the Treasury and EU lists together, was some £100,000. Many of those designated had few if any assets in the United Kingdom. These and other facts make TAFA 2010 is an ancillary rather than a central part of the fight against terrorism. A number of conclusions and recommendations are set out in sections 10 and 11

Download or read book Extreme Money written by Satyajit Das and published by FT Press. This book was released on 2011-08-04 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The human race created money and finance: then, our inventions recreated us. In Extreme Money, best-selling author and global finance expert Satyajit Das tells how this happened and what it means. Das reveals the spectacular, dangerous money games that are generating increasingly massive bubbles of fake growth, prosperity, and wealth--while endangering the jobs, possessions, and futures of virtually everyone outside finance. "...virtually in a category of its own — part history, part book of financial quotations, part cautionary tale, part textbook. It contains some of the clearest charts about risk transfer you will find anywhere. ...Others have laid out the dire consequences of financialisation ("the conversion of everything into monetary form", in Das’s phrase), but few have done it with a wider or more entertaining range of references...[Extreme Money] does... reach an important, if worrying, conclusion: financialisation may be too deep-rooted to be torn out. As Das puts it — characteristically borrowing a line from a movie, Inception — "the hardest virus to kill is an idea". -Andrew Hill "Eclectic Guide to the Excesses of the Crisis" Financial Times (August 17, 2011) Extreme Money named to the longlist for the 2011 FT and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year award.
Download or read book What is Divine Energy written by Vipin Gupta and published by Vipin Gupta. This book was released on 2021-05-09 with total page 621 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "What is divine energy" is an incredibly profound but straightforward exposition of the "science of everything." In this landmark work, Dr. Vipin Gupta begins with the investigation of the quintessential questions for understanding divine energy and managing life joyfully. Who am I? What is the soul? What is the spirit? Who is God? What is religion? What is the purpose of our life? What happens after death? Do we become a star as childrens’ books tell us? What is dark matter? What is black hole? What is the center of the universe? Is there an Absolute or anything beyond that? Are we truly incapable of creating or destroying energy? Dr. Gupta traces the journey of a cell, its origins in an atom, its transformation into energy, and how energy norms the potential of divinity within each person. He clarifies ninety-six paths of self-development for realizing this potential. He shows that, contrary to the present understanding, a cell’s development involves thirty-three phases. The work is rooted in the state-of-the-art science of microbiological-macrophysical genetics, India's ancient cultural metaphysics, and a unique energy quantification of the dynamic benefits and costs of everything. It is a part of a series of twelve books that traverses through an understanding of the present reality that can be applied to one’s personal life and for societal impact. It offers an unusual integration, which the beta readers report as “never seen anything like this before” and “overwhelming because of its originality, technicality, and comprehensiveness.” Dr. Vipin Gupta has a Ph.D. in managerial science and applied economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is a gold medalist from the Post-graduate Program of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, India. He is a Professor of sensible management and appropriate science at the Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration, California State University San Bernardino, USA.
Download or read book Hindu Pilgrimage written by Prabhavati C. Reddy and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-03-26 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, changes in religious studies in general and the study of Hinduism in particular have drawn more scholarly attention to other forms of the Hindu faith that are concretely embodied in temples, icons, artworks, rituals, and pilgrimage practices. This book analyses the phenomenon of pilgrimage as a religious practice and experience and examines Shrî Shailam, a renowned south Indian pilgrimage site of Shiva and Goddess Durga. In doing so, it investigates two dimensions: the worldview of a place that is of utmost sanctity for Hindu pilgrims and its historical evolution from medieval to modern times. Reddy blends religion, anthropology, art history and politics into one interdisciplinary exploration of how Shrî Shailam became the epicentre for Shaivism. Through this approach, the book examines Shrî Shailam’s influence on pan-Indian religious practices; the amalgamation of Brahmanical and regional traditions; and the intersection of the ideological and the civic worlds with respect to the management of pilgrimage centre in modern times. This book is the first thorough study of Shrî Shailam and brings together phenomenological and historical study to provide a comprehensive understanding of both the religious dimension and the historical development of the social organization of the pilgrimage place. As such, it will be of interest to students of Hinduism, Pilgrimage and South Asian Studies.

Download or read book The Javelin Trilogy written by Cutcliffe King and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2022-02-03 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Generations have been and gone since Colonel Jeremy McCloud disappeared without trace on the first space mission launched by the United States of America in August 1945. Those involved in the launch are also gone—or have they? Present day, twenty-first century The first indication there might be contact with the 1945 space vessel The Javelin was unknowingly initiated by an archivist, Sophia Aburae, who heard a distinct signal originating somewhere in the archivist’s expansive workrooms in Washington, DC. On receiving notification of a mysterious signal, US military specialists became involved in detecting its whereabouts and extricating the relay assembly. Unknown operatives were assigned the task of seeking out and destroying those involved in the delicate and secretive operation. Unknown alien visitors—eight identically dressed beings—were assigned the task of stopping any interference by the United States Military’s specialist operation forces. A stranger, Mr. Krawn, apparently of human origin, addressed the United Nations Security Council with a request to allow asylum and safe haven for the inhabitants of an unknown planet, Ichtholia, situated in the Maritimus Galaxy, ten light-years from Earth. A number of alien space vessels from Ichtholia descended onto the plains of the Great Western Desert in Western Australia. Primitive tribesmen of the Pintupi Nation observed the arrival of the strangers, reporting their discovery to a remote police station at Kiwirrkurra. A desert patrol was sent to the location and—along with numerous tribesmen—observed the behavior of the alien visitors to prevent any aggressive actions toward Earth beings. Corruption existed across many nations. Collaboration with the aliens by traitorous Xranons exacerbated the need for friendly alien forces to curb any attempts to overthrow the governments of all nations and control Earth—the blue planet!
