Download or read book EIB Global Impact Report 2023 2024 written by European Investment Bank and published by European Investment Bank. This book was released on 2024-07-01 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covering EIB Global's activities in 2023, this annual report shows how these activities are aligned with EU priorities and initiatives in different regions. It details the results and impact achieved by EIB Global's activities and provides an update on how the Bank is improving its mode of delivery, in order to enhance that impact. It is divided into four main sections: A tailored, regional approach: This section reports on the activities of EIB Global. Beginning with a special focus on Ukraine, it then covers Enlargement countries, the Neighbourhood regions, sub-Saharan Africa and finally Asia and Latin America (including Central Asia, the Pacific and the Caribbean). It examines the challenges in each region and how EIB Global is working with partners to address them in line with EU enlargement, regional and development policy. Delivering on EU priorities: This section describes how EIB Global is investing in social and economic infrastructure under the Global Gateway Initiative, helping partner countries step up climate action through both mitigation and acceleration, and expanding access to finance for entrepreneurs and small businesses to unlock job creation and growth. Two further parts focus on promoting gender equality through EIB Global operations, and how we work in fragile and conflict-affected states. Enhancing impact: This section examines the progress that EIB Global is making in achieving an improved mode of delivery under its Strategic Roadmap, in order to enhance and increase the impact it delivers. It covers key deliverables such as increasing local presence, the roll-out of advisory services and new products and initiatives, and how the Bank is learning from evaluations. Tracking results: Maximising EU impact is the ultimate goal of EIB Global. This section therefore describes how the Bank is managing for results, and reports on project results in detail, including results expected at appraisal and those achieved at project completion. It also reports on the Bank's additionality, carbon footprint and modelled impact on jobs.

Book EIB Global Report

Download or read book EIB Global Report written by European Investment Bank and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The European Investment Bank (EIB) has a long track record as a provider of development and climate finance, working with EU institutions, Member States and partner countries in the EU neighbourhood, sub-Saharan Africa and around the world to foster sustainable development and bring real benefits to people's lives. The challenges faced by our partners around the world are many: economies struggle to provide adequate jobs and basic infrastructure, while dealing with the growing needs for climate action and protection of the environment. These challenges have been aggravated by the coronavirus pandemic and the ramifications of the conflict in Ukraine. As of the start of 2022, the EIB's development finance role is being taken forward and intensified through EIB Global. The new structure builds on the strength and experience that the EIB has gained working outside Europe to mobilise more development and climate finance, and increase impact. The purpose of this report is twofold. First, it provides an overview of the Bank's activities outside the European Union in 2021, with a focus on the expected results, complemented by reporting on the results already achieved by past operations. Second, it elaborates on the context of the Bank's engagement in countries outside Europe, examining different development challenges and how they confront different regions, drawing on our own development research.

Book 2022 2023 EIB Global Report

Download or read book 2022 2023 EIB Global Report written by and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world is facing unprecedented challenges, with multiple crises undermining development progress, and even rolling back the achievements of recent years. The impacts of the pandemic and Russia's invasion of Ukraine are causing human suffering, have set back the struggle against extreme poverty, and are making it harder to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. The negative effects of climate change are worsening, with many emerging and developing countries among the most vulnerable. These challenges call for an effective, visible EU response that fosters real partnerships. As the EU bank and a key member of Team Europe, the European Investment Bank (EIB) launched EIB Global in January 2022 to better respond to this global context, and to improve the impact of its operations outside the European Union. This publication reports on the first year of EIB Global, with a focus on the global development context, on EIB Global's three main priority areas - climate change, jobs and inclusive growth, and the Global Gateway - and on the impact of its operations.

This book was released on 2024-03-15 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The European economy is under pressure. Growth is slowing and competitive challenges are rising, all while EU firms navigate the demands of the green transition. Coordinated support from national governments and EU institutions proved critical after the COVID-19 pandemic, helping Europe to bolster its resilience to future shocks and spurring the investment needed to transform and modernise the economy. As a result, progress was made in digitalisation, energy efficiency, decarbonisation and reinforcing supply chains. The pace of change needs to accelerate, however, even as investment becomes harder to sustain. To remain competitive, the European Union and its members need to improve productivity, encourage innovation, address skill gaps, develop new technologies and supporting young, dynamic firms. The report, which is based on the EIB Group's annual Investment Survey, provides insights on how EU firms are dealing with these pressures, and whether they are taking the necessary steps to transform their businesses. These key findings, provide a short accessible summary of the main report's messages.

Book Green Finance in the European Union

Download or read book Green Finance in the European Union written by Marta Postuła and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-09-02 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While global challenges continue to reshape the here and now, public and corporate finance management needs to adapt quickly to increase the efficiency of institutions, enterprises and policies to face our new reality. There are very few publications that offer a comprehensive approach to the financing of environmental protection activities by the European Union. This book explores this topic from various angles and levels, as well as highlighting the determinants that influence micro- and macro-level decisions in this area. It presents an in-depth and unique analysis of the sources of funding for environmental measures implemented by European Union institutions, against the backdrop of national expenditure by Member States, and analyses the plausibility of the adopted targets in the run-up to 2050, in the context of the war in Ukraine and ad hoc energy policy solutions. This book is a voice in an ongoing discussion among the community of practitioners and theoreticians on sources of financing for the energy transition to achieve independence from Russian sources in the quickest possible timeframe. It demonstrates that environmental measures cannot occur without the financial participation of economic actors and financial institutions, particularly the capital market, and further underscores the scale of involvement in environmental projects, as measured by the value of green loans and green bonds covered by European financial institutions. The authors offer policy recommendations for financing activities related to environmental policy, notably energy transition. This book will appeal to scholars, students and researchers of corporate finance, banking, strategic and public finance management as well as polic-ymakers and practitioners involved in green finance investments.

Book The European Fund for Strategic Investments The Legacy

Download or read book The European Fund for Strategic Investments The Legacy written by European Investment Bank and published by European Investment Bank. This book was released on 2021-01-07 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inside story of the European Fund for Strategic Investments from 2015 to 2020 told through interviews with the Managing Director, Deputy Managing Director, members of the Investment Committee and final beneficiaries across Europe. The architects of this €500 billion-plus programme, the head of the EU bank and the president of the European Commission, describe the genesis of this financial pillar of the Investment Plan for Europe. Then the people who ran one of the biggest economic stimulus programmes in history detail how they did it—and what the lessons are for policymakers responding to new crises, including the economic shock caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The European Fund for Strategic Investments has been one of the good news stories to emerge in a decade of economic uncertainty. It has gone well beyond its highly ambitious target of €500 billion in mobilised investments. The Juncker Plan has made a strong contribution to the 14 million jobs created in the EU between 2015 and 2020. It has become a success in co-financing projects that otherwise might not have been carried through. It has also charted the path towards new ways of financing. This is not only the case in relatively conventional areas, such as infrastructure, but also in sectors like research and innovation or the contribution to climate change mitigation. This is exactly what makes EFSI so ground-breaking: responding to the needs of the market through continuous financial innovation. The principle of the European Fund for Strategic Investments is here to stay. It has paved the way for its successor, the InvestEU programme, which is to be deployed under the 2021-2027 multiannual financial framework. This publication details why the programme was such a success.

Book Life in Cyberspace

Download or read book Life in Cyberspace written by Mary Aiken and published by European Investment Bank. This book was released on 2019-02-11 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Internet is a real place. Every time we switch on our computers, use a program or an application, or log in to a social media site, we enter a virtual space made up of worlds, domains, forums and rooms. But we behave differently when we interact with technology: technology amplifies and accelerates our deeds; it can help us find useful information, benefit from a wide range of services and stay in touch with our friends, but it can also create addictive-type behaviours and subliminally manipulate us online. Mary Aiken, a cyberpsychologist specialised in the impact of technology on human behaviour, warns us about cybersecurity: "We need a human-centred approach that is mindful of how humans actually use connected things and not how the tech sector presumes or expects them to". This is the fifth essay in the Big Ideas series created by the European Investment Bank.
