The original research reported in SCHIZOPHRENICS, NEUROTICS & NORMALS (Bellak, Hurvich & Gediman, Wiley 1973) & THE BROAD SCOPE OF EGO FUNCTION ASSESSMENT (Bellak & Goldsmith, Wiley, 1984) are somewhat cumbersome for the working clinician. The EFA Manual makes it practical for the clinician, serving as a guide for assessment & as a record of the level of functioning. In this form it has been used by the New York City Police Department, as well as departments in the city of New Orleans.
