Book Stochastic Differential Equations and Applications

Download or read book Stochastic Differential Equations and Applications written by Avner Friedman and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-06-20 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stochastic Differential Equations and Applications, Volume 2 is an eight-chapter text that focuses on the practical aspects of stochastic differential equations. This volume begins with a presentation of the auxiliary results in partial differential equations that are needed in the sequel. The succeeding chapters describe the behavior of the sample paths of solutions of stochastic differential equations. These topics are followed by a consideration of an issue whether the paths can hit a given set with positive probability, as well as the stability of paths about a given manifold and with spiraling of paths about this manifold. Other chapters deal with the applications to partial equations, specifically with the Dirichlet problem for degenerate elliptic equations. These chapters also explore the questions of singular perturbations and the existence of fundamental solutions for degenerate parabolic equations. The final chapters discuss stopping time problems, stochastic games, and stochastic differential games. This book is intended primarily to undergraduate and graduate mathematics students.

Book excerpt: Stochastic differential equations (SDEs) are a powerful tool in science, mathematics, economics and finance. This book will help the reader to master the basic theory and learn some applications of SDEs. In particular, the reader will be provided with the backward SDE technique for use in research when considering financial problems in the market, and with the reflecting SDE technique to enable study of optimal stochastic population control problems. These two techniques are powerful and efficient, and can also be applied to research in many other problems in nature, science and elsewhere.

Book An Introduction to Stochastic Differential Equations

Download or read book An Introduction to Stochastic Differential Equations written by Lawrence C. Evans and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2012-12-11 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These notes provide a concise introduction to stochastic differential equations and their application to the study of financial markets and as a basis for modeling diverse physical phenomena. They are accessible to non-specialists and make a valuable addition to the collection of texts on the topic. --Srinivasa Varadhan, New York University This is a handy and very useful text for studying stochastic differential equations. There is enough mathematical detail so that the reader can benefit from this introduction with only a basic background in mathematical analysis and probability. --George Papanicolaou, Stanford University This book covers the most important elementary facts regarding stochastic differential equations; it also describes some of the applications to partial differential equations, optimal stopping, and options pricing. The book's style is intuitive rather than formal, and emphasis is made on clarity. This book will be very helpful to starting graduate students and strong undergraduates as well as to others who want to gain knowledge of stochastic differential equations. I recommend this book enthusiastically. --Alexander Lipton, Mathematical Finance Executive, Bank of America Merrill Lynch This short book provides a quick, but very readable introduction to stochastic differential equations, that is, to differential equations subject to additive ``white noise'' and related random disturbances. The exposition is concise and strongly focused upon the interplay between probabilistic intuition and mathematical rigor. Topics include a quick survey of measure theoretic probability theory, followed by an introduction to Brownian motion and the Ito stochastic calculus, and finally the theory of stochastic differential equations. The text also includes applications to partial differential equations, optimal stopping problems and options pricing. This book can be used as a text for senior undergraduates or beginning graduate students in mathematics, applied mathematics, physics, financial mathematics, etc., who want to learn the basics of stochastic differential equations. The reader is assumed to be fairly familiar with measure theoretic mathematical analysis, but is not assumed to have any particular knowledge of probability theory (which is rapidly developed in Chapter 2 of the book).

Book A Course on Rough Paths

Download or read book A Course on Rough Paths written by Peter K. Friz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-05-27 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With many updates and additional exercises, the second edition of this book continues to provide readers with a gentle introduction to rough path analysis and regularity structures, theories that have yielded many new insights into the analysis of stochastic differential equations, and, most recently, stochastic partial differential equations. Rough path analysis provides the means for constructing a pathwise solution theory for stochastic differential equations which, in many respects, behaves like the theory of deterministic differential equations and permits a clean break between analytical and probabilistic arguments. Together with the theory of regularity structures, it forms a robust toolbox, allowing the recovery of many classical results without having to rely on specific probabilistic properties such as adaptedness or the martingale property. Essentially self-contained, this textbook puts the emphasis on ideas and short arguments, rather than aiming for the strongest possible statements. A typical reader will have been exposed to upper undergraduate analysis and probability courses, with little more than Itô-integration against Brownian motion required for most of the text. From the reviews of the first edition: "Can easily be used as a support for a graduate course ... Presents in an accessible way the unique point of view of two experts who themselves have largely contributed to the theory" - Fabrice Baudouin in the Mathematical Reviews "It is easy to base a graduate course on rough paths on this ... A researcher who carefully works her way through all of the exercises will have a very good impression of the current state of the art" - Nicolas Perkowski in Zentralblatt MATH

Book Stochastic Stability of Differential Equations

Download or read book Stochastic Stability of Differential Equations written by Rafail Khasminskii and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-09-20 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the publication of the first edition of the present volume in 1980, the stochastic stability of differential equations has become a very popular subject of research in mathematics and engineering. To date exact formulas for the Lyapunov exponent, the criteria for the moment and almost sure stability, and for the existence of stationary and periodic solutions of stochastic differential equations have been widely used in the literature. In this updated volume readers will find important new results on the moment Lyapunov exponent, stability index and some other fields, obtained after publication of the first edition, and a significantly expanded bibliography. This volume provides a solid foundation for students in graduate courses in mathematics and its applications. It is also useful for those researchers who would like to learn more about this subject, to start their research in this area or to study the properties of concrete mechanical systems subjected to random perturbations.

Book Stochastic Differential Equations

Download or read book Stochastic Differential Equations written by Michael J. Panik and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-03-15 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A beginner’s guide to stochastic growth modeling The chief advantage of stochastic growth models over deterministic models is that they combine both deterministic and stochastic elements of dynamic behaviors, such as weather, natural disasters, market fluctuations, and epidemics. This makes stochastic modeling a powerful tool in the hands of practitioners in fields for which population growth is a critical determinant of outcomes. However, the background requirements for studying SDEs can be daunting for those who lack the rigorous course of study received by math majors. Designed to be accessible to readers who have had only a few courses in calculus and statistics, this book offers a comprehensive review of the mathematical essentials needed to understand and apply stochastic growth models. In addition, the book describes deterministic and stochastic applications of population growth models including logistic, generalized logistic, Gompertz, negative exponential, and linear. Ideal for students and professionals in an array of fields including economics, population studies, environmental sciences, epidemiology, engineering, finance, and the biological sciences, Stochastic Differential Equations: An Introduction with Applications in Population Dynamics Modeling: • Provides precise definitions of many important terms and concepts and provides many solved example problems • Highlights the interpretation of results and does not rely on a theorem-proof approach • Features comprehensive chapters addressing any background deficiencies readers may have and offers a comprehensive review for those who need a mathematics refresher • Emphasizes solution techniques for SDEs and their practical application to the development of stochastic population models An indispensable resource for students and practitioners with limited exposure to mathematics and statistics, Stochastic Differential Equations: An Introduction with Applications in Population Dynamics Modeling is an excellent fit for advanced undergraduates and beginning graduate students, as well as practitioners who need a gentle introduction to SDEs. Michael J. Panik, PhD, is Professor in the Department of Economics, Barney School of Business and Public Administration at the University of Hartford in Connecticut. He received his PhD in Economics from Boston College and is a member of the American Mathematical Society, The American Statistical Association, and The Econometric Society.

Book Stochastic Differential Equations In Science And Engineering With Cd rom

Download or read book Stochastic Differential Equations In Science And Engineering With Cd rom written by Douglas Henderson and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2006-08-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditionally, non-quantum physics has been concerned with deterministic equations where the dynamics of the system are completely determined by initial conditions. A century ago the discovery of Brownian motion showed that nature need not be deterministic. However, it is only recently that there has been broad interest in nondeterministic and even chaotic systems, not only in physics but in ecology and economics. On a short term basis, the stock market is nondeterministic and often chaotic. Despite its significance, there are few books available that introduce the reader to modern ideas in stochastic systems. This book provides an introduction to this increasingly important field and includes a number of interesting applications.

It presents a spectrum of estimation methods, including nonparametric estimation as well as parametric estimation based on likelihood methods, estimating functions, and simulation techniques. Two chapters are devoted to high-frequency data. Multivariate models are also considered, including partially observed systems, asynchronous sampling, tests for simultaneous jumps, and multiscale diffusions. Statistical Methods for Stochastic Differential Equations is useful to the theoretical statistician and the probabilist who works in or intends to work in the field, as well as to the applied statistician or financial econometrician who needs the methods to analyze biological or financial time series.

Book Stochastic Integral And Differential Equations In Mathematical Modelling

Download or read book Stochastic Integral And Differential Equations In Mathematical Modelling written by Santanu Saha Ray and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2023-04-25 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The modelling of systems by differential equations usually requires that the parameters involved be completely known. Such models often originate from problems in physics or economics where we have insufficient information on parameter values. One important class of stochastic mathematical models is stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs), which can be seen as deterministic partial differential equations (PDEs) with finite or infinite dimensional stochastic processes — either with colour noise or white noise. Though white noise is a purely mathematical construction, it can be a good model for rapid random fluctuations.Stochastic Integral and Differential Equations in Mathematical Modelling concerns the analysis of discrete-time approximations for stochastic differential equations (SDEs) driven by Wiener processes. It also provides a theoretical basis for working with SDEs and stochastic processes. This book is written in a simple and clear mathematical logical language, with basic definitions and theorems on stochastic calculus provided from the outset. Each chapter contains illustrated examples via figures and tables. The reader can also construct new wavelets by using the procedure presented in the book. Stochastic Integral and Differential Equations in Mathematical Modelling fulfils the existing gap in the literature for a comprehensive account of this subject area.
