Download or read book The Efficacy of ProSeal SeLECT Defense OrthoCoat and Biscover LV Resin Sealants on the Prevention of Enamel Demineralization and White Spot Lesion Formation written by Tanner Jay Clark and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biscover LV provided a 67% decrease in lesion depth. Pro Seal provided significantly more protection (82% reduction) than the other three sealant materials: SeLECT Defense, OrthoCoat, and Biscover LV. Pro Seal, SeLECT Defense, OrthoCoat, and Biscover LV, should all be considered effective preventive treatments that do not require patient compliance for success. Pending further clinical investigation, Pro Seal should still be considered the gold standard for preventing enamel demineralization in orthodontic patients.

Download or read book Pit and Fissure Sealants written by Katrin Bekes and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-02-27 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides wide-ranging information on current clinical and scientific knowledge on the various aspects of fissure sealing. Trends in the epidemiology of caries are first examined, followed by thorough description of the morphology of pits and fissures and types of sealant. The role of sealants in the prevention of caries is discussed. Diagnostic parameters are presented, along with step-by-step descriptions of clinical procedures for fissure sealing. Chapters are also included on alternative techniques of fissure sealing, sealing of carious fissures, and therapeutic fissure sealing. The final chapter in the book focuses on the cost effectiveness of the procedure. Tooth surfaces with pits and fissures are particularly vulnerable to caries development. Sealants were developed to help manage these sites of the tooth and safeguard the surfaces from decay. This book has been written by acknowledged experts in the field. It will be of value for all dental professionals seeking to deepen their understanding of current knowledge on the science and the clinical application of pit and fissure sealants.

Book Efficacy of Orthodontic Bonding Agents in Preventing Demineralization Around Brackets

Download or read book Efficacy of Orthodontic Bonding Agents in Preventing Demineralization Around Brackets written by Morris Lewis Poole and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enamel demineralization is a concern in orthodontic patients with poor oral hygiene. To curtail this problem, amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) containing adhesives have been developed. The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the cariostatic potential of an ACP containing orthodontic bonding agent adjacent to brackets. Sixty human molars were randomly distributed into: ACP adhesive, resin modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC), and conventional composite resin groups (N=20 each). Brackets were bonded following the manufacturer0́9s instructions. Tooth enamel through a 2mm window around the brackets was cycled in demineralization (6 hrs) and remineralization (18 hrs) solutions. After 14 days, teeth embedded in resin and were sectioned. Knoop indentations were performed to determine enamel hardness. There were no statistically significant differences between the control and experimental groups. However, both Fuji Ortho LC (RMGIC), and Aegis Ortho (ACP) showed a trend toward a reduction in demineralization. In addition, it was also shown that the initial acid etching of the enamel significantly reduces enamel hardness.

Book Effectiveness of Fluoride Containing Bonding Resins in Preventing Demineralization of Enamel During Orthodontic Treatment

Download or read book Effectiveness of Fluoride Containing Bonding Resins in Preventing Demineralization of Enamel During Orthodontic Treatment written by Robin J. Choi and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction: Although orthodontics can correct a variety of dental and skeletal malocclusions, research has shown an increased risk of enamel demineralization leading to white spot lesions (WSLs). The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of Pro Seal and Opal Seal, two fluoridated bonding agents, to Assure, a nonfluoridated bonding agent, in preventing demineralization during orthodontic treatment. Methods: 26 patients beginning comprehensive orthodontic treatment were divided into 3 groups. 9 patients were bonded with Assure (control), 9 patients were bonded with Pro Seal, and 8 patients were bonded with Opal Seal. Pretreatment and six-month progress photographs were used to calculate demineralization rates, and statistical analysis was performed to determine if any bonding agent is better at preventing WSLs. Results: There was no statistically significant difference in demineralization rates between the three bonding agents; however, descriptive statistics suggest that Pro Seal and Opal Seal may prevent demineralization more effectively than Assure.

Book The Efficacy of Novamin Powered Technology Oravive and TopexRenew Crest and Prevident 5000 Plus in Preventing Enamel Demineralization and White Spot Lesion Formation

Download or read book The Efficacy of Novamin Powered Technology Oravive and TopexRenew Crest and Prevident 5000 Plus in Preventing Enamel Demineralization and White Spot Lesion Formation written by Andre Correia Jham and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare in vitro the effectiveness of Novamin powered technology Oravive and TopexRenew, with Crest and Colgate's PreviDent 5000 Plus in decreasing demineralization and preventing white spot lesion formation on extracted human teeth. Materials and Methods: Eighty-two extracted non-carious human third molar teeth without observable white-spot lesions, decalcification, or dental fluorosis were used for this in vitro study. The teeth in the study were suspended in their respective treatment slurry and cycled through remineralization and demineralization solutions for ten continuous days. Following the cycling protocol the teeth were sectioned using the hard tissue microtome producing three to five sections per tooth. The sections were photographed under a polarized light microscope and subsequently measured using Image Pro Plus computer software. Results: The post-hoc Bonferroni multiple comparison test indicated that the mean lesion depths observed in Control and Oravive groups were significantly greater than the other three treatment groups, while the mean lesion depth observed in Prevident was significantly lower than those in Renew and Crest. Moreover, no significant difference was found between Control and Oravive or between Renew and Crest. Conclusions: Renew (5% novamin; 5000 ppm F) performed at the same level as Crest (1100 ppm F) and inferior than Prevident 5000 Plus (5000 ppm F). Novamin by itself (Oravive, 5% Novamin) performed at the same level as the non-fluoridated Control group. Prevident 5000 Plus (5000 ppm F) was the most effective product in this study for the prevention of enamel demineralization and white spot lesion formation.

Download or read book Pediatric Dentistry E Book written by Paul S. Casamassimo and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 2013-11-28 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in full color, this text uses a unique age-specific organization to discuss all aspects of pediatric dentistry from infancy through adolescence. Each age-specific section covers the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social changes that children experience, as well as the epidemiology of dental disease at that age. Other chapters explore the examination, treatment planning, radiographic concerns, prevention, trauma, restorative dentistry, pulp therapy, orthodontics, and behavior management of each age range. Unique organization begins with an introduction to the basic information and topics pertinent to children of all ages, then divides up the rest of the text by age group to cover the specific changes the child experiences physically, cognitively, emotionally, and socially. In most cases, particular dental issues are discussed only once, at the point in a child’s development at which they are most appropriate. Section on children from conception to age three covers conditions such as cleft palate, disturbances in calcification, unusual numbers of teeth, oral habits, caries, and the development of malocclusions that start during these years. Chapter on aesthetic restorative dentistry for the adolescent looks at material selection, tooth color and form, diastemas, discolored teeth, bleaching and more. Chapter on sport dentistry and mouth protection covers how to evaluate child/adolescent athletes, the different types of mouth protection available, and professional activities in sports dentistry. Chapter on the diagnosis of oral lesions and developmental anomalies uses tables and extensive illustrations to depict developmental anomalies, white soft tissue lesions and enlargements, dark soft tissue lesions, ulcerative lesions, radiolucent lesions of bone, mixed radiolucent and radiopaque lesions of bone. NEW! Full-color design creates an immediate visual impact and better illustrates concepts and dental conditions.
