Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trame d'ombra, specchi oscuri, intrecci misteriosi.
Download or read book La Tela Strappata written by Alessio Scarlato and published by Luigi Pellegrini Editore. This book was released on 2016-10-19 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book The other s Gaze written by Davide Mazzi and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2012 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book combines the tools of corpus linguistics and discourse analysis in the attempt to investigate the discursive construction of professional identity on the part of journalists from Italy and the United States of America. More specifically, the ultimate objective of the study is to examine the discursive resources enabling journalists to construct their professional persona as experts exerting their authority in a community of practice, while they gaze at the 'other'. The analysis thus focuses on news articles from quality papers from Italy and the United States where each other's country is represented. With this primary aim in mind, the volume addresses the following leading questions: How is the 'other' (Italy in the US and the US in Italy) represented? How do journalists use language in order to craft their professional identity as they observe the 'other'? How is this operation subtly encoded in the language of texts traditionally credited with a balanced recount of facts, i.e., news articles?"

Download or read book Italian Cultural Lineages written by Jonathan White and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Italian Cultural Lineages, Jonathan White seeks answers to the elusive questions: what is Italian culture and what is the Italian identity? By tracing Italian life and art through several themes viewing and spectatorship, fantasy, passion, justice, reputation, and lifestyles White offers new ways of perceiving an ancient cultural tradition in the twenty-first century. In doing so, he challenges readers to discern rich poetic seams that bind together his varied subject matter. Italian Cultural Lineages is primarily concerned with factors that unify Italians, however geographically dispersed they may be. Drawing on extensive archival and historical research, White shows how oftentimes Italian cultural traditions that appear to be extinct are, in fact, enduring pushed out of the mainstream or submerged at some given point in history, only to re-surface and take on new meanings at a later date. Other, more marginal currents might disrupt and fragment Italian identity, politically and socially. However, White proposes that the challenge to Italy in these new and difficult lessons in tolerance has the potential to produce a much stronger culture, primed to welcome the marginal into an expanded spirit of all that counts as Italian. Ideally suited to course use, and written with great lucidity, Italian Cultural Lineages will prove fascinating to students, academics, and general readers alike.
Download or read book BETWEEN THESE WALLS written by Gino Gammaldi and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2023-09-13 with total page 929 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Horror is a genre that relies on one thing: instilling a sense of fear in the reader. The horror genre in this book is multifaceted. There is a particular kind of horror for every kind of person. For some, the most effective scare is the idea of being trapped in a haunted place. For others, it’s a dark mystery, blood and gore or being challenged by a serial killer. The main protagonist in this book is forced to confront all of these curses, ordeals, and calamities in a room that wreaks of torment and situations that cause great suffering and unhappiness the likes of which he has never experienced. The horrors that the protagonist encounters come from the subconscious, cryptic forces and alternate realms; mysterious happenings that manipulate feelings, state of mind and realities that create sensations of uneasiness and fear that stretch beyond consciousness and permeate deep within the human psyche. Most chapters in this book can be read independently of each other.
Download or read book Landscape and Memory in Post Fascist Italian Film written by Giuliana Minghelli and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-06-11 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study argues that neorealism’s visual genius is inseparable from its almost invisible relation to the Fascist past: a connection inscribed in cinematic landscapes. While largely a silent narrative, neorealism’s complex visual processing of two decades of Fascism remains the greatest cultural production in the service of memorialization and comprehension for a nation that had neither a Nuremberg nor a formal process of reconciliation. Through her readings of canonical neorealist films, Minghelli unearths the memorial strata of the neorealist image and investigates the complex historical charge that invests this cinema. This book is both a formal analysis of the new conception of the cinematic image born from a crisis of memory, and a reflection on the relation between cinema and memory. Films discussed include Ossessione (1943) Paisà (1946), Ladri di biciclette (1948), and Cronaca di un amore (1950).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cinema has been long associated with France, dating back to 1895, when Louis and Auguste Lumi_re screened their works, the first public viewing of films anywhere. Early silent pioneers Georges MZli_s, Alice Guy BlachZ and others followed in the footsteps of the Lumi_re brothers and the tradition of important filmmaking continued throughout the 20th century and beyond. In Encyclopedia of French Film Directors, Philippe Rège identifies every French director who has made at least one feature film since 1895. From undisputed masters to obscure one-timers, nearly 3,000 directors are cited here, including at least 200 filmmakers not mentioned in similar books published in France. Each director's entry contains a brief biographical summary, including dates and places of birth and death; information on the individual's education and professional training; and other pertinent details, such as real names (when the filmmaker uses a pseudonym). The entries also provide complete filmographies, including credits for feature films, shorts, documentaries, and television work. Some of the most important names in the history of film can be found in this encyclopedia, from masters of the Golden Age_Jean Renoir and RenZ Clair_to French New Wave artists such as Fran_ois Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard.
