Book Effects of Variable Tire Pressure on Road Surfacings Volume 2 Analysis of Test Results

Download or read book Effects of Variable Tire Pressure on Road Surfacings Volume 2 Analysis of Test Results written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was to determine the effects of variable tire pressure on road surfacings. A specially designed test road was constructed and subjected to both loaded and unloaded 18-wheeled log trucks operating in two distinct traffic lanes. The traffic was applied with the trucks operating at low and high tire pressures. This report provides an analytical summary of the types of test results obtained from the traffic applied to the test road and to use those test results to analyze, adapt, and develop design models which account for variable tire pressures on low-volume aggregate surfaced and asphalt-concrete surfaced roads. Although the amount of failure data available for many of the test items was very limited, a number of additional data points obtained under simulated field were added to the existing database on aggregate surface pavement performance. An updated set of design relationships were developed from this augmented database and were used to successfully demonstrate the beneficial effects of reducing tire pressure, and general guidance information was obtained for the use of three flexible pavement design methods with variable tire pressures ... Aggregate, Native material, Traffic tests, Asphalt concrete, Pavement analysis, Variable tire pressures, Central tire inflation, Pavement design, Maintenance, Road surfacings.

Book Effects of Variable Tire Pressure on Road Surfacings Volume 1 Design Construction Behavior Under Traffic and Test Results Computer Diskette

Download or read book Effects of Variable Tire Pressure on Road Surfacings Volume 1 Design Construction Behavior Under Traffic and Test Results Computer Diskette written by ARMY ENGINEER WATERWAYS EXPERIMENT STATION VICKSBURG MS GEOTECHNICAL LAB. and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: File characteristics: Data file (140 files); ASCII character set. Physical description: 6 computer diskettes; high density; 3 1/2 in.;2.0MB. System Requirements: IBM-PC Compatible; MS-DOS; Lotus 1.2.3. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of variable tire pressure on road surfacings. A specially designed test road was constructed and subjected to both loaded and unloaded 18-wheeled log trucks operating in two distinct traffic lanes. The traffic was applied with the trucks operating at low- and high-tire pressures. This report presents the background, design, construction procedure, and discussion of the performance of the various items during traffic. The results show that (a) when failures occurred in both lanes of the same asphalt concrete item, the ratio of low-tire-pressure traffic to high-tire-pressure traffic ranged between 1.5 and 2.1, (b) considerable maintenance will be required on aggregate surface grades receiving high-tire-pressure unloaded traffic because of severe wash-boarding, (c) the installation of central tire inflation systems that allow a driver to adjust a vehicle's tire pressure while in motion will be cost-effective for heavy trucks traveling on low volume, low speed roads.
