Book The Effect of Tire Pressures on Flexible Pavements

Download or read book The Effect of Tire Pressures on Flexible Pavements written by Freddy L. Roberts and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study includes the results of (1) a field study to determine the tire inflation pressures currently being carried by Texas highways, (2) a literature and analytical study to determine what tire contact pressures are actually being applied by modern tires to pavements, and (3) an analytical study to evaluate the effect of those contact pressures on the stresses and strains in typical Texas flexible pavements. Descriptions of the analytical studies include discussions of the finite element computer program used to model the tire carcass and the flexible pavements. The tires included in the analytical study included both truck and passenger car tires operated at typical loads and inflation pressures.

Book Effects of Automobile Tire Loads on Thin Flexible Pavements

Download or read book Effects of Automobile Tire Loads on Thin Flexible Pavements written by Freddy L. Roberts and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report includes the results of an analytical study of the effects of automobile tire loads on thin asphalt pavements over flexible bases. Two different ways of calculating the tire contact pressure were used and the strains induced in the pavement structure were evaluated. The uniform pressure tire model assumes that the tire contact pressure is equal to the tire inflation pressure. The Tielking tire model is a finite element computer program that models the tire as a shell of revolution and calculates the contact pressure distribution by using the tire carcass properties and the tire load.

Book Effects of Variable Tire Pressure on Road Surfacings Volume 1 Design Construction Behavior Under Traffic and Test Results Computer Diskette

Download or read book Effects of Variable Tire Pressure on Road Surfacings Volume 1 Design Construction Behavior Under Traffic and Test Results Computer Diskette written by ARMY ENGINEER WATERWAYS EXPERIMENT STATION VICKSBURG MS GEOTECHNICAL LAB. and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: File characteristics: Data file (140 files); ASCII character set. Physical description: 6 computer diskettes; high density; 3 1/2 in.;2.0MB. System Requirements: IBM-PC Compatible; MS-DOS; Lotus 1.2.3. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of variable tire pressure on road surfacings. A specially designed test road was constructed and subjected to both loaded and unloaded 18-wheeled log trucks operating in two distinct traffic lanes. The traffic was applied with the trucks operating at low- and high-tire pressures. This report presents the background, design, construction procedure, and discussion of the performance of the various items during traffic. The results show that (a) when failures occurred in both lanes of the same asphalt concrete item, the ratio of low-tire-pressure traffic to high-tire-pressure traffic ranged between 1.5 and 2.1, (b) considerable maintenance will be required on aggregate surface grades receiving high-tire-pressure unloaded traffic because of severe wash-boarding, (c) the installation of central tire inflation systems that allow a driver to adjust a vehicle's tire pressure while in motion will be cost-effective for heavy trucks traveling on low volume, low speed roads.

Book Pavement Response to Tire Inflation Pressure

Download or read book Pavement Response to Tire Inflation Pressure written by J. T. Christison and published by . This book was released on 1990-07-01 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years increased attention has been given to assessing the effects of traffic load variables on pavement distress from in-situ pavement response measurements. In this study, an experimental investigation was carried out to assess the influence of tire pressure on 1) surface deflection, 2) asphaltic concrete - base layer interfacial tensile strains, and 3) surface compressive strains. The study involved monitoring pavement responses under two wheel loading configurations at three tire inflation pressures and comparing the responses with those obtained from concurrent tests with a standard load. In general, variations in the magnitude of the pavement response variables with changes in tire inflation pressure were small and unique. There were no identifiable trends of the pavement response ratios with tire pressure variation.

Book Pavement Testing Facility

Download or read book Pavement Testing Facility written by Ramon Francis Bonaquist and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The effects of tire pressure on flexible pavement response and performance were evaluated using data from the first phase of research at the Federal Highway Administration's Pavement Testing Facility. The Accelerated Loading Facility testing machine was used to simulate traffic loading. The evaluation consisted of three components. First, deflections and strains for various combinations of load and tire pressure were measured and compared. Second, rutting and cracking for two test sections trafficked with the same load but different tire pressures were evaluated. Finally, changes in the pavement materials resulting from traffic were compared for the two sections trafficked with different tire pressures. These three evaluations showed tire pressure to be a second order effect. The effect of tire pressure on flexible pavement response and performance was less significant the effects of load and temperature. During the response experiment, when load and temperature were constant, the effects of tire pressure could be observed. However, in the performance and materials evaluations, the effects of increased tire pressure were masked by differences in temperature"--Technical report documentation page.
