Download or read book The Theory and Practice of Hydrodynamics and Vibration written by Subrata Kumar Chakrabarti and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2002 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the basics of the hydrodynamics and vibration of structures subjected to environmental loads. It describes the interaction of hydrodynamics with the associated vibration of structures, giving simple explanations. Emphasis is placed on the applications of the theory to practical problems. Several case studies are provided to show how the theory outlined in the book is applied in the design of structures. Background material needed for understanding fluid-induced vibrations of structures is given to make the book reasonably self-sufficient. Examples are taken mainly from the novel structures that are of interest today, including ocean and offshore structures and components. Besides being a text for undergraduates, this book can serve as a handy reference for design engineers and consultants involved in the design of structures subjected to dynamics and vibration.

Download or read book A Critical Review of the Intrinsic Nature of Vortex Induced Vibrations written by Turgut Sarpkaya and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a concise and comprehensive review of the progress made during the past two decades on vortex induced vibration (VIV) of mostly circular cylindrical structures subjected to steady uniform flow. The critical elements of the evolution of the ideas, theoretical insights, experimental methods, and numerical models are traced systematically; the strengths and weaknesses of the current state of the understanding of the complex fluid/structure interaction are discussed in some detail. Finally, some suggestions are made for further research on VIV. The organization of the paper is given at the end of the next section.
Download or read book Bluff Body Aerodynamics and Its Applications written by Manabu Ito and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1990 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the increasing slenderness and lightness of civil engineering structures such as tower blocks and bridges, wind effects on them have been attracting considerable interest from researchers and design engineers. Since most structures in civil engineering present bluff forms to the wind, the main emphasis of this collection of papers is on bluff body aerodynamics. The flow effects in this case, in addition to turbulence effects in the atmospheric boundary layer illustrate the unique and complex nature of the problems that can be encountered in this field, as opposed to the classical studies in the aeronautical field that influenced the initial development stages of industrial aerodynamics. Selected papers from the colloquium are presented in this volume. The papers offer a comprehensive presentation of the results of the studies made of wind effects on engineering structures. The latest trends in the field are outlined and the results obtained in the solution of topical problems are described.

Download or read book Hydrodynamics Around Cylindrical Structures written by Jorgen Fredsoe and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-03-17 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the subject of wave/current flow around a cylinder, the forces induced on the cylinder by the flow, and the vibration pattern of slender structures in a marine environment. The primary aim of the book is to describe the flow pattern and the resulting load which develops when waves or current meet a cylinder. Attention is paid to the special case of a circular cylinder. The development in the forces is related to the various flow patterns and is discussed in detail. Regular as well as irregular waves are considered, and special cases like wall proximities (pipelines) are also investigated. The book is intended for MSc students with some experience in basic fluid mechanics and for PhD students.
