Book excerpt: The effects of reactor radiations on the magnetic properties of 16 polycrystalline ferrites and magnetic garnets were studied. The materials were Ferramic E, I, O-3, S-1, S-3, R-1, R-4, R-5, R-6, and T-1, Ferroxcube 3-C, General Electric 36H, 36L, and 42L, and Yerramic R-1, S-1, and S-3 and Sm-Fe garnet. The effects of radiation on the hysteresis properties were insignificant after exposures below 10 to the 18th power n/sq cm. At 10 to the 18th power n/sq cm, increases in coercive force and rem- and Sm-Fe garnets. Hysteresis loops (0.4 to 100 kc) were measured in the Ferramic materials (except R-4, R-5, and R-6), Ferroxcube 3-C and the garnets. In addition, complex permeability (300 to 600 kc) was measured in Ferramic R-1, S-1, and S-3 and Sm-Fe garnet. Book excerpt: The effects of reactor radiation and Co-60 gamma raduatuib on the dielectric properties of 4 ceramic ferroelectric materials (BaTiO3, 96% BaTiO3 plus 4% PbTiO3, 95% BaTiO3 plus 5% CaTiO3, and 56% PbZrO3 plus 44% PbTiO3) were studied. Complex permittivity and large-signal hysteresis properties were measured before and after irradiation, after room temperature aging, and after 500 C heat treatment. The effects on the dielectric constant were small after fast-neutron exposures below 10 to the 18th power n/sq cm. After 10 to the 18th power n/sq cm, decreases in the values of the dielectric constants were observed with the passage of time. The total hysteresis loss at constant maximum electric displacement increased, and the changes in the hysteresis loops were large only in the samples exposed to 10 to the 18th power n/sq cm. The changes in the gamma-irradiated samples were similar to but smaller than those in the neutronirradiated samples.
