Book The Link Between Company Environmental and Financial Performance Routledge Revivals

Download or read book The Link Between Company Environmental and Financial Performance Routledge Revivals written by David Edwards and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-11-13 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Link between Company Environmental & Financial Performance, first published in 1998, is a detailed investigation into the effects of environmental performance – resource efficiency, regulatory compliance, new product and service opportunities – on corporate financial performance. This report makes essential reading for company management, investors and other stakeholders. It demonstrates the quantitative links between environmental and financial performance for the UK’s best and worst environmental performers across a range of business sectors. It shows that there is no financial penalty for being environmentally proactive, and confirms US findings that good environmental performance improves a company’s financial performance.

Book Industrial Ownership and Environmental Performance

Download or read book Industrial Ownership and Environmental Performance written by Hua Wang and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2002 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors explore the differences in pollution control performance of industries with different types of ownership in China-state-owned (SOE), collectively- or community-owned (COE), privately owned (POE), companies with foreign direct investment (FDI), and joint ventures. About 1,000 industrial firms in three provinces of China were surveyed, and detailed 1999 firm-level information was obtained. The authors analyzed the differences between firms in receiving and reacting to environmental regulatory enforcement, community pressure, environmental services, as well as in the firm's internal environmental management among the different types of ownership. The authors also conducted econometric analyses on the determinants of pollution discharge performance. The results show that foreign direct investment and collectively-owned enterprises have better environmental performances in terms of water pollution discharge intensity, while state-owned enterprises and privately owned enterprises in China are the worst performers. The results also suggest that collectively-owned enterprises in China do internalize environmental externalities.

Book Institutional Ownership and Multinational Firms

Download or read book Institutional Ownership and Multinational Firms written by James J. Kennelly and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-05-23 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study represents a rare empirical test of the assertions of critics of multinational corporations (MNCs), who argue that firm-level social and environmental performance suffers as MNCs grow increasingly mobile and subject to the short-term financial demands of institutional investors. Such critics argue that 'footloose' and 'stateless' MNCs have not only divorced themselves from a particular sense of responsibility to their home countries, but have also fallen increasingly under the sway of the 'myopic' demands of institutional investors. Using multiple regression analysis, the study considered the impact of various levels of multinationality and institutional ownership on the social and environmental performance of US-based manufacturing companies. Based on this empirical analysis, the radical critique of MNCs was not supported. Rather, the level of multinationality of firms was positively associated with social and environmental performance in the home country. This is a far cry from the demonized view of MNCs proffered by the critics. These findings suggest the possibility that MNCs may even have a positive influence on the development of a global economy that is consistent with the values and intent of vision of sustainable development. Ultimately, the study suggest that at a minimum, more attention should be paid to utilizing talents and competencies of MNCs in support of furthering positive social and environmental agendas. Book The Effect of Corporate Environmental Performance on Corporate Financial Performance

Download or read book The Effect of Corporate Environmental Performance on Corporate Financial Performance written by Dietrich Earnhart and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This review explores the effect of corporate environmental performance on financial performance. In particular, it reviews the empirical evidence on this effect. Conceptually, stronger environmental performance may lead to worse or better financial performance. The empirical literature generally finds a positive link from good environmental performance to financial success. However, many studies reveal a negative link. Given this mixed evidence, literature reviews and meta-analyses help to discern the conditions under which better environmental performance prompts financial success or disappointment. Similarly, this review organizes the empirical evidence by the specific measures of environmental performance and financial performance to discern which links are positive or negative. Lastly, the review identifies shortcomings in the empirical literature and offers suggestions for future research. For example, analyses should more fully explore the factors shaping the links from environmental to financial performance, such as firm size and economy type (e.g., mature market).

Book Pure Profit

Download or read book Pure Profit written by Robert C. Repetto and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study demonstrates a methodology that translates the implications of a company's environmental performance into financial terms. The methodology is forward-looking, deals explicitly with uncertainties regarding future environmental developments, and is consistent with established financial valuation techniques. The approach should also be easily adapted for use by company managers as an internal strategic planning tool. An application of this methodology to 13 leading companies in the US pulp and paper sector shows that pending environmental issues will have material financial impacts on companies in the pulp and paper sector and that these financial exposures vary considerably between companies. Knowing which companies are best positioned with regard to environmental issues could improve investors' decision-making.

Book Corporate Environmental Performance

Download or read book Corporate Environmental Performance written by Dianna Chang and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study mainly addresses two questions. The first question is: what determine the “greenness” of a company? The second question is: what are the impacts of a company's green policies on its investment decisions and financial performance? Using the green score published by Newsweek in 2009, 2010 and 2011, we find that firms are more likely to adopt good practices in their environmental policies if they have more top women executives and have more operations overseas. Furthermore, we document that more environmentally responsible companies invest less, but their investments contribute more to firm performance, suggesting that good environmental policies help companies reduce agency problems by avoiding over-investments.
