Book Effects of Multiple Filament Geometry in the Hot Filament Deposition of Diamond Films

Download or read book Effects of Multiple Filament Geometry in the Hot Filament Deposition of Diamond Films written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scaleup of hot filament chemical vapor deposition of diamond films requires knowledge of how filament geometry affects the deposition process. The effect of multiple filament geometry on the growth rate and surface morphology of diamond films is presented. Three factors were varied: the number of helical turns in a filament - 5, 10 or 15; the number of filaments present --1 or 2; and the CH4 fraction in the CH4-H2 feed gas mixture -- 0.25%, 0.5%, 0.75% or 1.0%. Other depositions parameters were 750 C substrate temperature, 52 standard cm/m total feed gas flow rate, and 5300 Pa deposition pressure. The deposition chamber volume was 1.9 liters. Increasing the CH4 concentration in the feed gas results in higher growth rates. However, increasing the number of filament turns in dual filament systems resulted in lower than expected growth rates for dual 10 and 15 turn filaments.

Book Influence of Filament Geometry on Hot Filament Growth of Diamond Films

Download or read book Influence of Filament Geometry on Hot Filament Growth of Diamond Films written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The influence of filament geometry on growth rate and morphology has been observed on diamond films deposited on single crystal silicon substrates in a hot filament CVD reactor. Single and dual helical W filaments having 5, 10, or 15 turns and CH4 :H2 ratios of 0.25%-1.00% were used. With single filaments the deposition rate was approximately proportional to the number of turns in the filaments produced lower deposition rates, compared to single filaments for depositions carried out at the same CH4 :H2 of 0.5%. Employing dual filaments doubled the area of uniform growth. Faceting of our films changed from (111) to (100), as the CH4 :H2 ratio was increased.

Book Applications of Diamond Films and Related Materials

Download or read book Applications of Diamond Films and Related Materials written by Y. Tzeng and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-03-03 with total page 903 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An intensifying interest from the scientific, technical, and industrial community in the new diamond technology can be attested to by the wide range of contributions in this proceedings volume. The papers discuss topics such as the applications of diamond films and related wide bandgap semiconductors and superhard materials. These materials are rapidly becoming economically significant due to their combination of superior properties: great hardness, high thermal conductivity, chemical inertness, high stiffness, high carrier mobilities, etc. Initial commercial products employing the new diamond technology are already on the market. These include diamond loudspeakers, diamond X-ray windows, diamond bonders, diamond cutting tools, and heads for magnetic disks coated with diamond-like carbon. The developments reported in this volume are important not only in terms of their own markets, but, also because they are expected to enable a wide range of other new products and production methods.

Book Modeling of Substrate Surface Temperature Distribution During Hot Filament Assisted Diamond Deposition

Download or read book Modeling of Substrate Surface Temperature Distribution During Hot Filament Assisted Diamond Deposition written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of substrate temperature in determining the quality, uniformity and growth rate of diamond films is now well recognized. In the hot filament assisted chemical vapor deposition of diamond, the mechanism of heat transfer is unique. In addition to conduction, convection and radiation, filament to substrate heat transfer takes place by dissociation of molecular hydrogen at or near the filament and recombination of atomic hydrogen at the substrate surface. In this paper, the role of atomic hydrogen recombination in heat transfer is examined. Furthermore, the effects of system geometry and process variables on the substrate temperature distribution are analyzed. The results indicate that atomic hydrogen recombination at the substrate plays a significant role in substrate heating. In hot filament assisted diamond deposition, system geometry, filament temperature and pressure are the most important factors in determining the substrate temperature distribution.

Book Metallurgical Coatings and Thin Films 1992

Download or read book Metallurgical Coatings and Thin Films 1992 written by G.E. McGuire and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 638 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the increasingly important requirements for high technology materials is that they possess near-surface properties different to their bulk properties. Specific surface properties are generally achieved through the use of these films or coatings or by modifying the structure or composition of the near surface. This two-volume work contains 157 papers covering a wide range of topics involving films, coatings, and modified surfaces. All aspects of the development of deposition technologies are addressed including basic research, applied research, applications development and full scale industrial production. The work will be of interest to materials scientists, physicists, electronic, chemical and mechanical engineers, and chemists.
