    Book Details:
  • Author : Christian E. W. Steinberg
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2018-09-26
  • ISBN : 3319917676
  • Pages : 474 pages

Download or read book Aquatic Animal Nutrition written by Christian E. W. Steinberg and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-26 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a unique cross fertilization of aquatic ecology and aquaculture. It shows how diets structure the digestive tract and its microbiota and, in turn, the microbiota influences life history traits of its host, including behavior. Short-term starvation can have beneficial effects on individuals themselves and succeeding generations which may acquire multiple stress resistances – a mechanism strengthening the persistence of populations. From terrestrial, but not yet from aquatic animals, it is understood that circadian the rhythmicity makes toxins or good food. On the long-term, the dietary basis impacts succeeding generations and can trigger a sympatric speciation by (epi)-genetics. This volume defines gaps in nutritional research and practice of farmed fishes and invertebrates by referring to knowledge from marine and freshwater biology. It also points out that dietary benefits and deficiencies have effects on several succeeding generations, indicating that well designed diets may have the potential to successfully improve broodstock and breeding effort.

Book Nutritional Physiology and Gut Microbiome

Download or read book Nutritional Physiology and Gut Microbiome written by Jia Yin and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-06-22 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The gut microbiota is the largest symbiotic ecosystem in the host and has been demonstrated to play an important role in maintaining intestinal homeostasis. The symbiotic relationship between the microbiota and the host is mutually beneficial. The host provides important habitat and nutrients for the microbiome. The gut microbiota supports the development of the metabolic system and the intestinal immune system's maturation. Intestinal microbes ingest dietary components such as carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids, and the metabolites are reported to directly or indirectly affect human health. Therefore, there is an inseparable relationship between the gut microbiota and the nutrition of the host.

Book Cellular Dialogues in the Holobiont

Download or read book Cellular Dialogues in the Holobiont written by Thomas C. G. Bosch and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-08-23 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines how the growing knowledge of the huge range of protist-, animal-, and plant-bacterial interactions, whether in shared ecosystems or intimate symbioses, is fundamentally altering our understanding of biology. The establishment and maintenance of these interactions and their contributions to the health and survival of all partners relies on continuous cell-to-cell communication between them. This dialogue may be concerned with all aspects of the biology of both partners. The book includes chapters devoted to exploring, explaining, and exposing these dialogues across a broad spectrum of plant and animal eukaryotes to a broad field of biologists. Key Features Explores the nature of the interactions between eukaryotic hosts and their microbial symbionts Examines the links between prostist, animal, and plant evolution and microbial communities Reviews specific taxa and the microbial diversity associated with these taxa Illustrates the role microbes play in the physiology and etiology of several model species Includes chapters by an international team of leading scholars

Book The Genus Aeromonas

Download or read book The Genus Aeromonas written by Brian Austin and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is recognized that aeromonads form the dominant component of the eutrophic freshwater aerobic bacterial population and over the last ten years the many facets of the organisms have attracted much attention. This timely publication presents the latest developments in the biology of Aeromonas and draws on the expertise of an international team of contributors to provide an authoritative and enlightening account of the many species in this genus. Early chapters deal with the taxonomy, isolation and enumeration, and identification of aeromonads. The book goes on to describe subtyping methods for Aeromonas species, the ecology of mesophilic Aeromonas in the aquatic environment, human pathogens (diarrhoeal disease), Aeromonas species in disease of animals, fish pathogens, pathogenic mechanisms, toxins and the Aeromonas hydrophila group in food. This commendable reference source will be of value to all medical and veterinary microbiologists, public health scientists and microbial ecologists.

Book excerpt: Biology and Physiology of Freshwater Neotropical Fish is the all-inclusive guide to fish species prevalent in the neotropical realm. It provides the most updated systematics, classification, anatomical, behavioral, genetic, and functioning systems information on freshwater neotropical fish species. This book begins by analyzing the differences in phylogeny, anatomy, and behaviour of neotropical fish. Systems such as cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, digestive, reproductive, muscular, and endocrine are described in detail. This book also looks at the effects of stress on fish immune systems, and how color and pigmentation play into physiology and species differentiation. Biology and Physiology of Freshwater Neotropical Fish is a must-have for fish biologists and zoologists. Students in zoology, ichthyology, and fish farming will also find this book useful for its coverage of some of the world’s rarest and least-known fish species. Book The impact of microplastics on the gut microbiome and health

Download or read book The impact of microplastics on the gut microbiome and health written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2023-05-04 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a food safety focus, a scientific literature review was conducted to characterize the current understanding about the effects of microplastics on the gut microbiome and potential health implications. The main aspects analysed are (1) the effects of microplastics on the composition, diversity and function of gut microbiome using in vito and in vivo models; (2) health implications resulting from the microplastic–microbiome interactions and underlying mechanisms; (3) the establishment of causality; and (4) influence of the gut microbiome on microplastic biodegradation. The research was also scoped to identify current gaps, limitations and needs for the eventual consideration of microbiome-related data in chemical risk assessment. With this work, ESF contributes to the FAO global programme on the impact of food systems on NCDs and obesity, by understanding the potential health implications of gut microbiome–microplastic interactions. The outcomes will provide information which can be used to improve food safety policies.
