Book Sustainable Concrete Made with Ashes and Dust from Different Sources

Download or read book Sustainable Concrete Made with Ashes and Dust from Different Sources written by Rafat Siddique and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2021-11-17 with total page 628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sustainable Concrete Made with Ashes and Dust from Different Sources: Materials, Properties and Applications focuses on individual materials, addressing material characterization, their role in the strength and durability of construction materials, and structural applications. Each chapter reflects the current state-of-the-art in terms of the effective and efficient use of the material. Types of ashes covered are Coal Fly Ash, Coal Bottom Ash, Bagasse Ash, MSW Ash, Red Mud, Waste Marble Dust, Sewage Sludge Ash, and Cement Kiln Dust. This book is useful for civil engineers in the design and development of sustainable concrete by utilizing such types of ashes and researchers involved in the design and formulation of new cementitious materials. - Focuses on different types of ashes derived from various sources for use in the development of sustainable concrete - Discusses the economic and environmental impacts, normative restrictions, and implementation in codes and standards related to the use of these by-products/wastes in concretes - Includes coverage of the impact of dust from construction and demolition wastes

Book Contamination of Groundwater by Heavy Metals from the Land Disposal of Fly Ash Final Report

Download or read book Contamination of Groundwater by Heavy Metals from the Land Disposal of Fly Ash Final Report written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information is provided on laboratory and field research to assess the aquatic effects and extent of release, migration, and attenuation of trace metals from fly ash into subsurface soil environments for a typical disposal regime. Those metals analyzed were arsenic, cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, mercury, nickel, and zinc. Laboratory studies indicated that the major effects of fly ash in water were pH alterations, which could be either acidic or basic, and comparatively high proportions of trace metals released from the ash surface, controlled largely by pH. Field studies confirmed the continued importance of pH in defining the attenuation of the metals by the soil but also suggested that pSO4, ionic strength, and soil chemical parameters, such as iron and manganese content, could not be ignored. Theoretical thermodynamic analysis in concert with field data indicated that both adsorption onto soil phases and precipitation of metal phases occurred, the dominant attenuation mechanism depending upon the specific metal and soil conditions.

Book Lake and Reservoir Restoration

Download or read book Lake and Reservoir Restoration written by G. Dennis Cooke and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lake and Reservoir Restoration deals with the eutrophication process and the methods to protect, restore, and manage lakes and reservoirs. The most common in-lake techniques or procedures, plus nutrient diversion, are reviewed with regard to their scientific basis, methods of application, known effectiveness, feasibility, drawbacks, and costs. Areas for further research and development are also highlighted. This book is comprised of 16 chapters organized into four sections. After an introduction to the theory of the problem and the restoration technique, the discussion turns to the various restoration methods such as those used for physical and chemical control of nutrients. Diversion and advanced waste treatment, hypolimnetic withdrawal, and dilution and flushing are considered along with phosphorus precipitation and inactivation, sediment oxidation, sediment removal, and hypolimnetic aeration. Case studies and success stories are presented and the costs and potential negative impacts of the methods are examined. The following chapters focus on methods to control plant biomass, including artificial circulation, water-level drawdown, harvesting, biological control, and surface and sediment covers. A chapter on liming acidified lakes concludes this text. This monograph will be useful to professional limnologists and engineers, on-site lake or reservoir managers, and those who are interested in learning about the problems and management of lakes and reservoirs.
