Book Effects of Composition on the Mechanical Properties of Ni cr mo co Filler Metals

Download or read book Effects of Composition on the Mechanical Properties of Ni cr mo co Filler Metals written by P. J. Konkol and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Previous studies to develop maraging-steel experimental HY-180/210 filler metals indicated that aluminum and titanium nonmetallic inclusions may significantly reduce the toughness of maraging steel weld metals. Therefore, a program was initiated to determine the effects of composition on the mechanical properties of Ni-Cr-Mo-Co experimental HY-180/210 weld metals that contained no aluminum or titanium. The effects of carbon (0.02 to 0.30%), nickel (4.0 to 20.0%), chromium (0.0 to 6.0%), molybdenum (0.0 to 6.0%), and cobalt (0.0 to 8.0%) on the mechanical properties of 32 statistically selected Ni-Cr-Mo-Co filler metals (deposited with the TIG process) were evaluated. The results indicated that the microstructures of the Ni-Cr-Mo-Co as-deposited weld metals consisted of martensite and retained austenite (0 to 88%) and that large amounts of retained austenite caused a large loss in weldmetal strength and toughness. Book Welding High strength Steels

Download or read book Welding High strength Steels written by P. A. Kammer and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent studies of the developments in welding steels with yield strengths greater than 150 ksi have included low-alloy martensitic steels, medium-alloy martensitic steels, nickel maraging steels, and bainitic steels. Only weldments from medium-alloy martensitic steels and nickel maraging steels have mechanical properties approaching those of the base plate without a complete postweld heat treatment. The most serious problem with the other steel is low toughness in the weld fusion zone. Adequate weld metal toughness under conditions of elastic strain can be obtarined over the entire 150 to 225 ksi yield-strength range only if the tungsten-arc welding process is used. Processes with higher deposition rates can produce comparable weld deposits only in the lower portion of the range. Above a yield strength of 200 ksi, 18Ni maraging steel weldments have the best combination of strength and toughness. Below 200 ksi, the HP 9-4-25 medium-alloy martensitic steel and 12Ni maraging steel weldments have nearly equal properties.

Book Effect of Chemistry Variations in Plate and Weld Filler Metal on the Corrosion Performance of Ni Cr Mo Alloys

Download or read book Effect of Chemistry Variations in Plate and Weld Filler Metal on the Corrosion Performance of Ni Cr Mo Alloys written by R. B. Rebak and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ASTM standard B 575 provides the requirements for the chemical composition of Nickel-Chromium-Molybdenum (Ni-Cr-Mo) alloys such as Alloy 22 (N06022) and Alloy 686 (N06686). The compositions of each element are given in a range. For example, the content of Mo is specified from 12.5 to 14.5 weight percent for Alloy 22 and from 15.0 to 17.0 weight percent for Alloy 686. It was important to determine how the corrosion rate of welded plates of Alloy 22 using Alloy 686 weld filler metal would change if heats of these alloys were prepared using several variations in the composition of the elements even though still in the range specified in B 575. All the material used in this report were especially prepared at Allegheny Ludlum Co. Seven heats of plate were welded with seven heats of wire. Immersion corrosion tests were conducted in a boiling solution of sulfuric acid plus ferric sulfate (ASTM G 28 A) using both as-welded (ASW) coupons and solution heat-treated (SHT) coupons. Results show that the corrosion rate was not affected by the chemistry of the materials in the range of the standards.

Book Welding Metallurgy and Weldability of Nickel Base Alloys

Download or read book Welding Metallurgy and Weldability of Nickel Base Alloys written by John C. Lippold and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-09-20 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most up-to-date coverage of welding metallurgy aspects and weldability issues associated with Ni-base alloys Welding Metallurgy and Weldability of Nickel-Base Alloys describes the fundamental metallurgical principles that control the microstructure and properties of welded Ni-base alloys. It serves as a practical how-to guide that enables engineers to select the proper alloys, filler metals, heat treatments, and welding conditions to ensure that failures are avoided during fabrication and service. Chapter coverage includes: Alloying additions, phase diagrams, and phase stability Solid-solution strengthened Ni-base alloys Precipitation strengthened Ni-base alloys Oxide dispersion strengthened alloys and nickel aluminides Repair welding of Ni-base alloys Dissimilar welding Weldability testing High-chromium alloys used in nuclear power applications With its excellent balance between the fundamentals and practical problem solving, the book serves as an ideal reference for scientists, engineers, and technicians, as well as a textbook for undergraduate and graduate courses in welding metallurgy.
