First born is forever described as being responsible high succeeded and perfectionists whereas lastborns and only child are always described as the baby child of the home and are generally spoiled kids. Usually, parents are activated and awaited about their first children and therefore, tend to be excessively caring and more attention, investment, as well as anticipation on this children. Still parent's prospect, care, tending and investment vary across children. As the second born child arrives in the family, the first born child may have dethronement and the same happens to the second born child once a last born child arrives and so away. In any case, it was recommended that parental resources that children accepted decrement as the sib ship size grows larger. Therefore, each and every child feel different level of parental resources and investment as the result of their distinguishable birth order while these singular experiences will successively shape their developmental course. ZAJONC A priest who was a heavy smoker once asked his bishop if it was all right if he smoked while praying. Appalled, the bishop chastised the priest for the very thought of soiling the solemn moment of prayer with such a filthy habit. Some years passed and the bishop came again through our priest's parish. And our tormented priest asked again about his predicament. But he asked a somewhat different question: "Your excellency," he said, "is it all right to pray while smoking?" There was no hesitation in the bishop's answer. "Of course!" he said. "There is nothing in the world that should keep you from praying. You can always pray, my son. You should miss no opportunity to pray. Whenever you wish to pray, by all means pray!" The relationship between individual differences and social psychology is roughly the same as between smoking and praying. Many social psychologists, and especially experimental social psycholOgists, are openly disdainful of individ ual difference variables. They avoid them in their studies and refuse to incor porate them in theories. The reasons for their (and we really should say "my" because the author is no exception in this matter) attitude are not obvious.

Book excerpt: The main goal of this study is to determine if motivation style is the underlying construct that bridges birth order effects with intelligence, school performance and personality, as found in previously published work. Participants completed a survey to assess motivation style as measured by the tendency to activate or inhibit behavior based on learned rewarding or punishing environmental cues. The study failed to find significant birth order differences for motivational style with the exception of an inverse relationship between family size and fun seeking tendency. Larger age gap between siblings corresponds with higher reward seeking. Family size and academic achievement are negatively correlated, and the only and oldest child have higher academic achievement scores. Limitations of the study include a restricted range in intelligence and achievement due to the selection of participants from a college population.
