This book was released on 1986 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As part of a three-year study examining some potential effects ofherbicide use in forest management on adjacent aquatic ecosystems, baselinephysical and chemical characteristics of 6 small ponds located in the southeastern boreal forest near Pine Falls, Manitoba were monitored in 1985. Surficial sediment samples were collected from each pondand were analyzed for calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese, sulphate, carbonate, nitrate, phosphate, salinity, pH and organic matter content. Surface water samples were collected at weekly intervalsand were analyzed for true colour, pH, conductivity, alkalinity and concentrations of sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese, chloride, fluoride, sulphate, ammonia-nitrogen, nitrate/nitrite-nitrogen, total Kjeldahl nitrogen, total phosphorus, silica anddissolved organic carbon. Measurements of water transparency, air and surfacewater temperature and water depth at a fixed location in each pond were alsomade weekly. Climatic datawere collected from a station in the PineFalls townsite.

Download or read book Ecological Impacts of Toxic Chemicals written by Francisco Sánchez-Bayo, Paul J. van den Brink, Reinier M. Mann and published by Francisco Sanchez-Bayo. This book was released on 2011-09-09 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ecological Impacts of Toxic Chemicals presents a comprehensive, yet readable account of the known disturbances caused by all kinds of toxic chemicals on both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Topics cover the sources of toxicants, their fate and distribution through the planet, their impacts on specific ecosystems, and their remediation by natural systems. Each chapter is written by well-known specialists in those areas, for the general public, students, and even scientists from outside this field. The book intends to raise awareness of the dangers of chemical pollution in a world dominated by industry and globalization of resources. Because the problems are widespread and far reaching, it is hoped that confronting the facts may prompt better management practices at industrial, agricultural and all levels of management, from local to governmental, so as to reduce the negative impacts of chemical contaminants on our planet.

Book Handbook of Research on the Adverse Effects of Pesticide Pollution in Aquatic Ecosystems

Download or read book Handbook of Research on the Adverse Effects of Pesticide Pollution in Aquatic Ecosystems written by Wani, Khursheed Ahmad and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2018-10-05 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Certain types of pesticides are widely used in agriculture in all parts of the world due to their relatively low cost, broad spectrum of activity, and high efficiency. These pollutants contaminate not only the surrounding soils and water but, in many cases, also enter into the drinking water. The Handbook of Research on the Adverse Effects of Pesticide Pollution in Aquatic Ecosystems provides emerging research exploring the theoretical and practical aspects of the prevention of accumulation of toxic pollutants such as agrochemicals and organochlorine pesticides in aquatic ecosystems and applications within ecology and agriculture. Featuring coverage on a broad range of topics such as pesticide monitoring, metabolites, and risk assessment, this book is ideally designed for scientists, researchers, engineers, policymakers, agricultural specialists, industrialists, academicians, and students seeking current research on the risks of water contaminants in small ecosystems.
