Book Advanced Research Methods in the Built Environment

Download or read book Advanced Research Methods in the Built Environment written by Andrew Knight and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-03-16 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a bridge between the introductory research methods books and the discipline-specific, higher level texts. Its unique feature is the coverage of the detailed process of research rather than the findings of research projects. Chapter authors have been carefully selected by their expertise, discipline and location to give an eclectic range of perspectives. Particular care has been taken to balance positivist with interpretivist approaches throughout. The authors focus is on the practical consequences of research philosophies, strategies and techniques by using their own research and by evaluating the work of others. Advanced Research Methods in the Built Environment addresses common topics raised by postgraduate level researchers rather than dealing with all aspects of the research process. Issues covered range from the practicalities of producing a journal article to the role of theory in research. The material brought together here provides a valuable resource for the training and development of doctoral and young researchers and will contribute to a new sense of shared methodological understanding across built environment research.

Book Application of Constructability Concepts in the Industrialized Building Stsrem for the Malaysia Construction Industry

Download or read book Application of Constructability Concepts in the Industrialized Building Stsrem for the Malaysia Construction Industry written by Mostafa Babaeian Jelodar and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Constructability is generally reducing the problems of construction by incorporating the construction knowledge into the design of a construction project. The Malaysian construction industry is attempting to promote and use Industrialized Building systems (IBS) for better construction practice with more effectiveness and efficiency, but in terms of constructability and research into the application of constructability concepts for IBS little work has been done. In fact the Malaysian construction industry is still not applying the concepts of constructability in totality and there is lack of constructability research in Malaysia. In this research the application status of constructability concepts which have been previously defined for Malaysia are examined and assessed within the Malaysian IBS industry. The ease of constructability application of IBS and conventional building methods are investigated and finally the concepts that are not being applied up to their potential level in IBS construction and resemble possible problems in the process of application are identified. A survey is used to obtain the essential data needed for the research from the active IBS industry participants of Malaysia. It was found that the IBS contractors are applying constructability more than the designers and suppliers and also the early constructability concepts gained a higher application score than other concepts. Using information technology and the innovative concepts of the field operation phase were the most difficult concepts to apply and generally the application of constructability concepts in IBS construction is easier compared to the conventional building systems according to the IBS industry participants.
