Download or read book Symposium on Effective Highway Accident Countermeasures written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Symposium on Effective Highway Accident Countermeasures was held in Washington, D.C., on June 12-14, 1990. The Symposium was hosted by the Federal Highway Administration in cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Symposium's objectives were to identify the most effective and practical short-term (within 2 years) countermeasures to highway accidents and to develop strategies for their implementation. The Symposium focused on five areas of highway safety: improving pedestrian safety, reducing accident severity, improving driver performance and control, improving commercial motor vehicle safety, and identifying and improving highway corridors. This publication summarizes the presentations and workshop reports.

Book Effective Highway Accident Countermeasures

Download or read book Effective Highway Accident Countermeasures written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a result of the June 1990 Symposium on Effective Highway Accident Countermeasures--sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) in cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)--short-term safety countermeasures were identified for emphasis and funding support. This Status Report describes the progress made to date at the State, local, and Federal levels in carrying out these 11 countermeasures. This document has been compiled from reports submitted to the Office of Highway Safety. The aim of the report is to (1) indicate the range and scope of activities pursued in implementing the countermeasures, (2) highlight particularly noteworthy projects, and (3) provide information on documentation, resources, and contacts for readers interested in obtaining more detailed descriptions.

Book Assessment of Techniques for Cost effectiveness of Highway Accident Countermeasures

Download or read book Assessment of Techniques for Cost effectiveness of Highway Accident Countermeasures written by United States. Federal Highway Administration. Environmental Design and Control Division and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Improved cost-effectiveness techniques are developed for evaluating highway safety programs. These improved techniques include: better methods of determining accident costs; statistical procedures for calculating accident costs; consistent system for evaluating accident cost and countermeasure effectiveness; and improved incremental benefit-cost algorithm for ranking safety projects. In addition to developing improved cost-effectiveness techniques the report reviews selected accident countermeasure studies and provides a critique of current procedures for evaluating safety programs. Three techniques are recommended for use in allocating safety funds: incremental benefit-cost, with improved algorithm; dynamic programming; and integer programming.
