Book Advances in Ceramic Matrix Composites

Download or read book Advances in Ceramic Matrix Composites written by I M Low and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2014-02-14 with total page 735 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) have proven to be useful for a wide range of applications because of properties such as their light weight, toughness and temperature resistance. Advances in ceramic matrix composites summarises key advances and types of processing of CMCs.After an introductory chapter, the first part of the book reviews types and processing of CMCs, covering processing, properties and applications. Chapters discuss nanoceramic matric composites, silicon carbide-containing alumina nanocomposites and advances in manufacture by various infiltration techniques including heat treatments and spark plasma sintering. The second part of the book is dedicated to understanding the properties of CMCs with chapters on Finite Element Analysis, tribology and wear and self-healing CMCs. The final part of the book examines the applications of CMCs, including those in the structural engineering, nuclear and fusion energy, turbine, metal cutting and microelectronics industries.Advances in ceramic matrix composites is an essential text for researchers and engineers in the field of CMCs and industries such as aerospace and automotive engineering. - Reviews types and processing of CMCs, covering processing, properties and applications

Book Advances in Composite Tribology

Download or read book Advances in Composite Tribology written by K. Friedrich and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 809 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much research has been carried out and a lot of progress has been made towards the use of composite materials in a wide field of tribological applications. In recent years studies have been made to determine to what degree phenomena governing the tribological performance of composites can be generalized and to consolidate interdisciplinary information for polymer-, metal- and ceramic matrix composites. The importance of promoting better knowledge in the areas of friction, lubrication and wear, in general, is demonstrated by the contents of this volume. It covers a wide range of subjects extending from fundamental research on the tribological characteristics of various multi-phase materials up to final applications of composites in wear loaded, technical components. Besides the emphasis on composites tribology, the great practical aspect of the field in many industrial applications is also reviewed by authors who are engaged in applied research as well as those in more academic activities. The articles in this volume will facilitate both researchers and mechanical designers in their work towards a set of predictive, materials engineering-related models for a more reliable use of composites as tribo-materials.Through the study of, and observation of, the tribology of sensibly formulated composite systems may emerge a clear and more profound understanding of the subject of tribology. In this sense, this book offers a major and critical evaluation of the state of understanding of the principles of tribology and its ability to serve the practical and commercial needs of this technology generally, and particularly in the context of composite systems.

Book Fiber reinforced Metal matrix Composites 1968

Download or read book Fiber reinforced Metal matrix Composites 1968 written by K. R. Hanby and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Report is intended to update DMIC Report S-21, which describes 1967 research on fiber-reinforced metal-matrix composites. A two-page summary outlines the current state of the art of these composites, and is followed by a discussion of 1968 research on the composites, arranged according to matrix- and fiber-materials. The bulk of the report consists of summaries of 1968 research programs, arranged by programs. (Author).

Book Ceramic Cutting Tools

Download or read book Ceramic Cutting Tools written by E. Dow Whitney and published by William Andrew. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interest in ceramics as a high speed cutting tool material is based primarily on favorable material properties. As a class of materials, ceramics possess high melting points, excellent hardness and good wear resistance. Unlike most metals, hardness levels in ceramics generally remain high at elevated temperatures which means that cutting tip integrity is relatively unaffected at high cutting speeds. Ceramics are also chemically inert against most workmetals.
