Book An Exploratory Theoretical Investigation of the Effect of Longitudinal Surface Curvature on the Turbulent Boundary Layer

Download or read book An Exploratory Theoretical Investigation of the Effect of Longitudinal Surface Curvature on the Turbulent Boundary Layer written by Neal Tetervin and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The equations of motion and total enthalpy are derived for a compressible turbulent boundary layer on an axisymmetric or two-dimensional surface with non-negligible longitudinal curvature. From these equations are derived the integral-momentum, kinetic-energy, and total-enthalpy equations for non-negligible longitudinal curvature. Calculations indicate that if concave curvature increases the skin friction sufficiently separation is delayed although the boundary layer is thickened. Also, an increase in curvature in the direction in which the surface pressure rises acts to hasten separation for concave curvature and delay it for convex curvature. (Author).

Book Study of Longitudinal Curvature Effects in Turbulent Boundary Layers with Application to Drag Reduction

Download or read book Study of Longitudinal Curvature Effects in Turbulent Boundary Layers with Application to Drag Reduction written by A. J. Smits and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work was concerned with a study of subsonic boundary layer behavior downstream of a 90 degree convex bend with a boundary layer thickness of radius-of-curvature ratio of approximately 0.1. Only mean flow results are available. They indicate that the boundary layer, severely distorted when it exits from the curved region, experiences several stages in the recovery process as it relaxes on the flat plate. These stages are described in detail. Keywords: Turbulence.

Book Prediction of Local and Integrated Heat Transfer in Nozzles Using an Integral Turbulent Boundary Layer

Download or read book Prediction of Local and Integrated Heat Transfer in Nozzles Using an Integral Turbulent Boundary Layer written by Donald R. Boldman and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An empirical modification of an existing integral energy turbulent boundary layer method is proposed in order to improve the estimates of local heat transfer in converging-diverging nozzles and consequently, provide better assessments of the total or integrated heat transfer. The method involves the use of a modified momentum-heat analogy which includes an acceleration term comprising the nozzle geometry and free stream velocity. The original and modified theories are applied to heat transfer data from previous studies which used heated air in 30 deg - 15 deg, 45 deg - 15 deg, and 60 deg - 15 deg water-cooled nozzles.

Book On the Effect of Transverse Curvature in Compressible Laminar Boundary Layer Flow Over Slender Bodies of Revolution

Download or read book On the Effect of Transverse Curvature in Compressible Laminar Boundary Layer Flow Over Slender Bodies of Revolution written by and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effect of transverse curvature on the compressible laminar boundary layer flow over slender axisymmetric powerlaw bodies is investigated, employing the momentum integral technique. Pressure gradients are neglected and the body surface is assumed to be insulated. Asymptotic solutions for the skin friction coefficient are derived in the regimes of weak and strong curvature effects. A numerical integration, covering the entire range of curvature effects, was carried out for the cone. (Author).

Book Stability of Time Dependent and Spatially Varying Flows

Download or read book Stability of Time Dependent and Spatially Varying Flows written by D.L. Dwoyer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the collection of papers presented at the workshop on 'The Stability of Spatially Varying and Time Dependent Flows" sponsored by the Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering (lCASE) and NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) during August 19- 23, 1985. The purpose of this workshop was to bring together some of the experts in the field for an exchange of ideas to update the current status of knowledge and to help identify trends for future research. Among the invited speakers were D.M. Bushnell, M. Goldstein, P. Hall, Th. Herbert, R.E. Kelly, L. Mack, A.H. Nayfeh, F.T. Smith, and C. von Kerczek. The contributed papers were by A. Bayliss, R. Bodonyi, S. Cowley, C. Grosch, S. Lekoudis, P. Monkewitz, A. Patera, and C. Streett. In the first article, Bushnell provides a historical background on laminar flow control (LFC) research and summarizes the crucial role played by stability theory in LFC system design. He also identifies problem areas in stability theory requiring further research from the view-point of ap plications to LFC design. It is an excellent article for theoreticians looking for some down-to-earth applications of stability theory.
