Book Lift Pitching Moment and Span Load Characteristics of Wings at Low Speed as Affected by Variations of Sweep and Aspect Ratio

Download or read book Lift Pitching Moment and Span Load Characteristics of Wings at Low Speed as Affected by Variations of Sweep and Aspect Ratio written by Edward J. Hopkins and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lift, pitching-moment, and pressure distribution were measured on a wing which was swept -40, -30, 0, 35, and 45 degrees. The wing span was decreased to give aspect ratios 6.8, 5.3, 4.2, 3.4, and 2.8. The effects of independent variations of sweep and aspect ratio on the lift, pitching-moment, and span-load characteristics of the wings are compared with the effects estimated by use of the Weissinger method.

Book Supersonic Lift and Pitching Moment of Thin Sweptback Tapered Wings Produced by Constant Vertical Acceleration

Download or read book Supersonic Lift and Pitching Moment of Thin Sweptback Tapered Wings Produced by Constant Vertical Acceleration written by and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretical approximations to the nondimensional lift and pitching moment produced by constant vertical acceleration, the CL(alpha) and CM(alpha) derivatives, respectively, are derived for a series of thin sweptback tapered wings with streamwise tips. The analysis is essentially the application of a recently published solution of the linearized time-dependent wave equation for wings in accelerated motion. The results are independent of camber and thickness and are applicable for a range of supersonic speed for which the wing is wholly contained between the Mach cones springing from the wing apex and from the trailing edge of the root section (subsonic leading edge and supersonic trailing edge). Design curves are presented which permit rapid estimation of the derivatives CL(alpha) and CM(alpha) for given values of aspect ratio, taper ratio, Mach number, and leading-edge sweep.

Heitmeyer and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wing-body combination having a plane triangular wing of aspect ratio 3 and NACA 0003-63 sections in streamwise planes has been investigated at both subsonic and supersonic Mach numbers. The lift, drag, and pitching moment of the model are presented for Mach numbers from 0.60 to 0.92 and from 1.20 to 1.70 at a Reynolds number of 4.80 million. The variations of the characteristics with Reynolds number are also shown for several Mach numbers.
