Book The Effect of Steam Curing on High Early Strength Portland Cement Containing Carbonate Addition

Download or read book The Effect of Steam Curing on High Early Strength Portland Cement Containing Carbonate Addition written by C. Bédard and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1981 the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Committee A5 on Hydraulic Cements approved carbonate addition to normal portland cement Type 10 to a maximum of 5%. The decision was based on a considerable amount of data indicating no adverse effects on the properties of concrete and even improvements at optimum level of carbonate addition. The CSA Committee is now considering a proposal for extending carbonate addition to high-early strength portland cement Type 30 that has essentially the same chemical composition as Type 10 cement. Since Type 30 cement is used primarily in precast and prestressed concrete operations, a project has been initiated at the Research and Technical Center of Lafarge Canada Inc. to study the effect of steam curing conditions on the properties of concrete made with Type 30 cement containing carbonate addition. The main parameters will be the tricalcium aluminate (C3A) content of the cement, the presence of carbonate addition, and the curing temperature. The properties investigated will be compressive strength, freezing and thawing resistance ASTM Test for Resistance of Concrete to Rapid Freezing and Thawing (C 666, Procedure A), and volume change ASTM Test for Length Change of Hardened Hydraulic Cement Mortar and Concrete (C 157).

Book Developments in the Formulation and Reinforcement of Concrete

Book excerpt: Developments in the Formulation and Reinforcement of Concrete, Second Edition, presents the latest developments on topics covered in the first edition. In addition, it includes new chapters on supplementary cementitious materials, mass concrete, the sustainably of concrete, service life prediction, limestone cements, the corrosion of steel in concrete, alkali-aggregate reactions, and concrete as a multiscale material. The book's chapters introduce the reader to some of the most important issues facing today's concrete industry. With its distinguished editor and international team of contributors, users will find this to be a must-have reference for civil and structural engineers. Summarizes a wealth of recent research on structural concrete, including material microstructure, concrete types, and variation and construction techniques Emphasizes concrete mixture design and applications in civil and structural engineering Reviews modern concrete materials and novel construction systems, such as the precast industry and structures requiring high-performance concrete

Book Design and Control of Concrete Mixtures

Book Concrete Admixtures Handbook

Download or read book Concrete Admixtures Handbook written by V.S. Ramachandran and published by William Andrew. This book was released on 1996-12-31 with total page 1183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the publication of the first edition ten years ago, significant developments have occurred in the use of admixtures in concrete. Eight new chapters and a full update of the preceding ten chapters bring this book up to date; reflecting the relative advances made in the science and technology of different groups of admixtures. The increased role and development of admixtures in concrete technology is evidenced by a number of conferences, publications, and novel admixtures available in the market place. These developments in the field caused the modification of many chapters in the first edition in order to reflect the advances. Although individual chapters refer to standards and specifications of admixtures, those only interested in the standards or techniques used in investigating admixtures will find the second chapter (Research Technologies, Standards, and Specifications) useful. Admixtures are not as inert as may be presumed. They may chemically interact with the constituents of concrete and affect the properties of the fresh and hardened concrete and its durability. The third chapter deals with these aspects. It was important to devote a chapter to recent attempts in developing new admixtures.

Book Recycled Aggregate in Concrete

Download or read book Recycled Aggregate in Concrete written by Jorge de Brito and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-11-28 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concrete is the most used man-made material in the world since its invention. The widespread use of this material has led to continuous developments such as ultra-high strength concrete and self-compacting concrete. Recycled Aggregate in Concrete: Use of Industrial, Construction and Demolition Waste focuses on the recent development which the use of various types of recycled waste materials as aggregate in the production of various types of concrete. By drawing together information and data from various fields and sources, Recycled Aggregate in Concrete: Use of Industrial, Construction and Demolition Waste provides full coverage of this subject. Divided into two parts, a compilation of varied literature data related to the use of various types of industrial waste as aggregates in concrete is followed by a discussion of the use of construction and demolition waste as aggregate in concrete. The properties of the aggregates and their effect on various concrete properties are presented, and the quantitative procedure to estimate the properties of concrete containing construction and demolition waste as aggregates is explained. Current codes and practices developed in various countries to use construction and demolition waste as aggregates in concrete and issues related to the sustainability of cement and concrete production are also discussed. The comprehensive information presented in Recycled Aggregate in Concrete: Use of Industrial, Construction and Demolition Waste will be helpful to graduate students, researchers and concrete technologists. The collected data will also be an essential reference for practicing engineers who face problems concerning the use of these materials in concrete production.

Book Compressive Strength of Concrete

Download or read book Compressive Strength of Concrete written by Pavel Krivenko and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-03-11 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concrete made using mineral cements, the raw materials which on earth are practically endless, is known as one of the oldest building materials and during the last decades of the twentieth century has become a dominant building material for general use. At the same time, the requirements of the quality of concrete and its performance properties, in particular compressive strength, durability, economical efficiency, and low negative impact of its manufacture on the environment have not yet been completely met. Bearing these requirements in mind, researchers and engineers worldwide are working on how to satisfy these requirements. This book has been written by researchers and experts in the field and provides the state of the art on recent progress achieved on the properties of concrete, including concrete in which industrial by-products are utilized. The book is dedicated to graduate students, researchers, and practicing engineers in related fields.
