Download or read book Systematic Analysis of Gear Failures written by Lester E. Alban and published by ASM International. This book was released on 1985-01-01 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explores the detailed steps necessary to determine the causes of failure. First, the physical characteristics of a gear are studied: where the stress points are, from what directions the forces are applied, where the movement of material progresses, and where strain patterns exist. Second, all external conditions and forces are considered. With this background information, a systematic examination is described from beginning to end, the end being a conclusion about the mode and cause of failure.

Download or read book Gear Materials Properties and Manufacture written by Joseph R. Davis and published by ASM International. This book was released on 2005 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All of the critical technical aspects of gear materials technology are addressed in this new reference work. Gear Materials, Properties, and Manufacture is intended for gear metallurgists and materials specialists, manufacturing engineers, lubrication technologists, and analysts concerned with gear failures who seek a better understanding of gear performance and gear life. This volume complements other gear texts that emphasize the design, geometry, and theory of gears. The coverage begins with an overview of the various types of gears used, important gear terminology, applied stresses and strength requirements associated with gears, and lubrication and wear. This is followed by in-depth treatment of metallic (ferrous and nonferrous alloys) and plastic gear materials. Emphasis is on the properties of carburized steels, the material of choice for high-performance power transmission gearing.

Download or read book Face Gear Drive with Spur Involute Pinion Geometry Generation by a Worm Stress Analysis written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A face gear drive with a spur involute pinion is considered. The generation of the face gear is based on application of a grinding or cutting worm whereas the conventional method of generation is based on application of an involute shaper. An analytical approach for determination of: (1) the worm thread surface, (2) avoidance of singularities of the worm thread surface, (3) dressing of the worm, and (4) determination of stresses of the face-gear drive, is proposed. A computer program for simulation of meshing and contact of the pinion and face-gear has been developed. Correction of machine-tool settings is proposed for reduction of the shift of the bearing contact caused by misalignment. An automatic development of the model of five contacting teeth has been proposed for stress analysis. Numerical examples for illustration of the developed theory are provided.

Download or read book Metal Failures written by A. J. McEvily and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2002 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: comprehensive coverage of both the "how" and "why" of metal failures Metal Failures gives engineers the intellectual tools and practical understanding needed to analyze failures from a structural point of view. Its proven methods of examination and analysis enable investigators to: * Reach correct, fact-based conclusions on the causes of metal failures * Present and defend these conclusions before highly critical bodies * Suggest design improvements that may prevent future failures Analytical methods presented include stress analysis, fracture mechanics, fatigue analysis, corrosion science, and nondestructive testing. Numerous case studies illustrate the application of basic principles of metallurgy and failure analysis to a wide variety of real-world situations. Readers learn how to investigate and analyze failures that involve: * Alloys and coatings * Brittle and ductile fractures * Thermal and residual stresses * Creep and fatigue * Corrosion, hydrogen embrittlement, and stress-corrosion cracking This useful professional reference is also an excellent learning tool for senior-level students in mechanical, materials, and civil engineering.
Download or read book Bevel Gear written by Jan Klingelnberg and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-03-25 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book to offer a complete presentation of bevel gears. An expert team of authors highlights the areas of application for these machine elements and presents the geometrical features of bevel gears as well as the various gear cutting processes based on gear cutting theory. The aspect of three-dimensional gearing is assessed in detail in terms of flank design, load capacity and noise behavior. A representation of production processes with the required technologies provides a knowledge base on which sound decisions can be based. The authors offer a thorough introduction to the complex world of bevel gears and present the rapid advances of these machine elements in a detailed, comprehensible manner. This book addresses design engineers in mechanical engineering and vehicle manufacturing, as well as producers of bevel gears and students in mechanical engineering.
