Download or read book Corrosion Control in the Aerospace Industry written by Samuel Benavides and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2009-01-21 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corrosion control in the aerospace industry has always been important, but is becoming more so with the ageing of the aircraft fleet. Corrosion control in the aerospace industry provides a comprehensive review of the subject with real-world perspectives and approaches to corrosion control and prevention.Part one discusses the fundamentals of corrosion and the cost of corrosion with chapters on such topics as corrosion and the threat to aircraft structural integrity and the effect of corrosion on aluminium alloys. Part two then reviews corrosion monitoring, evaluation and prediction including non-destructive evaluation of corrosion, integrated health and corrosion monitoring systems, modelling of corrosion and fatigue on aircraft structures and corrosion control in space launch vehicles. Finally, Part three covers corrosion protection and prevention, including chapters which discuss coating removal techniques, novel corrosion schemes, greases and their role in corrosion control and business strategies in fleet maintenance. With its distinguished editor and team of expert contributors, Corrosion control in the aerospace industry is a standard reference for everyone involved in the maintenance and daily operation of aircraft, as well as those concerned with aircraft safety, designers of aircraft, materials scientists and corrosion experts. - Discusses the fundamentals of corrosion and the cost of corrosion to the aerospace industry - Examines the threat corrosion poses to aircraft structural integrity and the effect of corrosion on the mechanical behaviour of aircraft - Reviews methods for corrosion monitoring, evaluation and prediction examining both current practices and future trends

Download or read book Corrosion Fatigue of Aircraft Materials written by ADVISORY GROUP FOR AEROSPACE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT NEUILLY-SUR-SEINE (France) and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental effects on the fatigue of aircraft materials have been neglected in the past. Damage behaviour of aircraft structures was analysed by fatigue and fracture mechanics with without paying much attention to the environment. A few years ago, some laboratories of NATO countries started to investigate corrosion fatigue. A proposal was made to the Structures and Materials Panel for new activities in corrosion fatigue with the intension of presenting the state of the art in this field of interdisciplinary R and D of corrosion and fatigue engineers. The SMP approved the presentation of four pilot papers on the corrosion fatigue of high strength aluminum, titanium and steel alloys at the 44th Panel Meeting in April 1977. The four papers are of interest to materials and structural engineers and give detailed information on experimental results from four laboratories together with recommendations of areas for future research. Book Structural Integrity of Aging Airplanes

Download or read book Structural Integrity of Aging Airplanes written by Satya N. Atluri and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The emergence of civil aviation as a means of mass transportation is primarily due to the large scale construction of jet airplanes in the past 30 years or so. A large number of these jet airplanes is currently operating at or beyond their designed fatigue lives. Thus, the structural integrity of these aging airplanes has become an issue of major concern to all nations of the world. To bring the needed technical and research focus on the issues involved in the life-enhancement and safety-assurance of aging airplanes, the Federal Aviation Administration sponsored a symposium in Atlanta, GA, USA, during 20-22 March 1990. This symposium, under the title "International Symposium on Structural Integrity of Aging Airplanes· was organized jointly be the Georgia Institute of Technology (Center for Computational Mechanics) and the Transportation Systems Center (Cambridge, MA) of the U.S. Department of Transportation. Industrial and academic experts from several countries in North America, Europe and Asia, were invited to discuss their experiences and proposed solutions. This monograph contains the original papers that represent the expanded and edited versions of the talks presented at this symposium. This book aims to bring the collective experience, from across the world, with problems related to the structural integrity of aging airplanes to the attention of the professional and research community at large - in the hope that it may stimulate further fruitful research on this important topic of global concern.

Book Engineering Against Fracture

Download or read book Engineering Against Fracture written by S. G. Pantelakis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-02-14 with total page 554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within the last thirty years there is a growing acknowledgement that prevention of catastrophic failures necessitates engagement of a large pool of expertise. Herein it is not excessive to seek advice from disciplines like materials science, structural engineering, mathematics, physics, reliability engineering and even economics. Today’s engineering goals, independently of size; do not have the luxury of being outsideaglobalperspective.Survivaloftheintegratedmarketsand?nancialsystems require a web of safe transportation, energy production and product manufacturing. It is perhaps the ?rst decade in engineering history that multidisciplinary - proaching is not just an idea that needs to materialise but has matured beyond infancy. We can witness such transition by examining engineering job descriptions and postgraduate curricula. The undertaking of organising a conference to re?ect the above was not easy and de?nitely, not something that was brought to life without a lot of work and c- st mitment. The 1 Conference of Engineering Against Fracture from its conceptual day until completion was designed in a way of underlying the need of bringing all the key players on a common ground that once properly cultivated can ?ourish. To achieve that the conference themes were numerous and despite their, in principle notional differences, it was apparent that the attendees established such common ground through argumentation. The reader can see this from the variety of research areas re?ected by the works and keynote lecturers presented.
